Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, July 23, 2021

Happy Friday! Today is the final day of Robin Roberts’ hosting stint; $141,410 has been donated to Be The Match thus far. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Literary Characters) for Friday, July 23, 2021 (Season 37, Game 215):

This owner of a large estate in Derbyshire is described as “proud” at least half a dozen times

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Rachel Vanarsdall, a translator from Silver Spring, Maryland
Rachel Vanarsdall on Jeopardy!
John Roberson, a medical coder from Apple Valley, Minnesota
John Roberson on Jeopardy!
Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Connecticut (2-day total: $81,400)
Matt Amodio on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Matt has averaged 13 correct in the bottom two rows of the board over his first two games; it’s likely going to take Matt running out of steam in order to dethrone him at this point.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

  1. Doctoral degree-granting institutions in New Haven: What is Yale? Yesterday Matt said he was a big history nerd. Is that perhaps what he is studying there? Hard to tell his strengths. He appears to have broad knowledge.

  2. Congratulations on the 100K, Matt!

I thought it was a one-and-done when he won his first game, but nope!

  3. easy final jeopardy There was a movie based on the book pride and prejudice starring Kiera Knightly and the dame Judi Dench. Still I can’t believe how everyone just missed this one. Oh well congrats to Matt on his 3rd win today. 100K in 3 days is a enormous total so I think he definitely has a good chance of winning game 4 next week.

    • There were multiple Pride and Prejudice movies – not to be mistaken with the movies “Bride and Prejudice” and “Pride + Prejudice + Zombies”

  4. Matt’s winning ways are leaving me breathless! He cleaned up on the DDs, 59% 1st on the buzzer for 30 correct responses, and ran away with FJ!, for a 3 game total over $100k and an 84% chance to win a 4th!
Congrats Matt! Can’t wait for Monday’s game!

Did they not get that “proud” alluded to the title? Tiny leap to the “hero’s” name.

  6. Brad (not Rutter) | July 23, 2021 at 5:15 pm |

I was bummed when Josh lost, but it makes me feel better that his conqueror was the real deal, as we are seeing.

  7. Years of watching Big Bang Theory has me yelling out “Darcy” at the Tv. Sheldon was unable to ruin P&P for Amy…“Amy’s beloved Pride and Prejudice is a flawless work of genius. He’s proud, she’s prejudiced, it just works.”

  8. I can’t keep all the Austen sisters’ books straight. Maybe I just need to read them.

  9. Of the 15 players who have won at least $100,000 in 3 days, I can remember 12 of them. Matt Amodio, James Holzhauer, Roger Craig, Mark Runsvold, Brian Weikle, Kevin Joyce, Joon Pahk, Andrew Pau, Larissa Kelly, Arthur Gandolfi, Tom Baker & Seth Alcorn. Who were the other 3?

  10. I’ve just remembered Megan Barnes & David Skaar. 1 more.

  11. I found the last 1: Jack Feerick, with 3 wins & $108,200. Alright, that done.
