Today is Thursday, Day #4 of Robin Roberts’ hosting stint. Through 3 days, $97,410 has been donated to Be The Match. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 1970s Movie Scenes) for Thursday, July 22, 2021 (Season 37, Game 214):
Writer Dan O’Bannon based a scene in this film on his own Crohn’s disease, which felt like things inside him fighting to get out
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Pete Wisniewski, a math teacher from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania![]() |
Rekha Rajkumar, a stay-at-home parent from Oak Park, Illinois![]() |
Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Connecticut (1-day total: $40,400)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Matt knocked off a strong 3-day champion in Josh Saak yesterday, aided greatly by picking off 7 clues off the bottom of the board and another 5 off the fourth row. That sort of wide, deep knowledge is going to be difficult to beat.
One thing that I often see here on this site are people who expect that the show will be able to somehow correct perceived slights in contestant behaviour. These viewers obviously do not realize that these shows are taped months in advance—by way of example, these shows would have taped in mid-to-late April—and it is therefore impossible to make “corrections”. (The beefs these viewers have are also generally on the incredibly petty side, I’ve found, as well.)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

O’Bannon based Alien‘s famous chest-bursting scene, where an alien punched his way out of John Hurt’s chest during dinner, on his own Crohn’s disease, where his “digestion process felt like something bubbling inside of [him] struggling to get out.” O’Bannon’s Crohn’s disease was the cause of his 2009 death at the age of 63.

My first thought was Alien but wasn’t sure if it was made in the 1970s and so it was.
ditto. For some reason, I had me thinking Alien was 1990s
Just shows how ahead of their time some of the great sci-fi movies really were, plus Sigourney Weaver seems to be aging really well.
Star Wars was 1977 and I still find the effects amazing. Clash of the Titans, by comparison, was 1981, and the Harryhausen stop-motion effects make it look like a 60’s movie.
Having ulcerative colitis, I can relate – and yes, guessed the movie correctly.
That sucks. Hopefully you can get it fully treated some day.
as a person also having ulcerative Colitis. I can relate to it as well and I got alien too. Congrats Matt on a big win! I think he definitely has a good shot for the 100K mark tomorrow.. I remember watching alien but I wish I still had the dvd version.
2 wins and $80,000 – I think we have a potential super streaker!
On a side note, sorry about the O.C. Mark and Lou, I can only imagine what you two have to deal with.
Hey Andy…at the very beginning of the show, did u catch what Robin Roberts said today was?…Alex Trebek’s birthday. He would have been 81 years old TODAY..July 22
Congrats to Matt and best wishes for a game 3 win! Of the previous 5 with > $80k through two games, he becomes the first with > $40k each in the first two games
Matt has obviously stepped up his game from what was already an impressive performance yesterday. Today he got 32 questions right on his own, ie, more than half the entire board. If he keeps that up, we have the makings for a long haul champ here. BTW, only 2 triple stumpers today, also an impressive stat. And if I were Josh, I’d feel sick every time I heard an Andrew Lloyd Webber tune.
I liked the two syllable, three letter category.
4 for 4 on Final so far, never been 5 for 5, can it possibly happen?
Good luck!
Of course it happened to John Hurt again in Mel Brooks’ ‘Spaceballs’; ‘Bring this guy some Pepto Bismol’
I want to know where Robin got the outfit she was wearing Thursday night- multi- colored
blouse & pants- you have shown every night but this one!! Plus, she does a wonderful job hosting Jeopardy!!
