Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, August 25, 2021

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category French History) for Wednesday, August 25, 2021 (Season 28, Game 38):

She said, “I told my plans to no one. I was not killing a man, but a wild beast that was devouring the French people”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Erin McLean, a junior at Boston University from Danvers, Massachusetts
Erin McLean on Jeopardy!
Tom Nissley, a writer from Seattle, Washington
Tom Nissley on Jeopardy!
Justin Sausville, a urologist from Baltimore, Maryland
Justin Sausville on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Season 38 begins September 13 with the return of 18-day champion Matt Amodio; in the interim, Jeopardy! is running four weeks of reruns. The first two weeks will be the 10 “Alex Around the World” episodes that ran in his memory in late December; the 2021 Tournament of Champions, hosted by Buzzy Cohen, will air from August 30 through September 10. Today’s episode featured a category about operatic costumes with Alex on location at the Metropolitan Opera and originally aired November 9, 2011 as the first semifinal in the 2011 Tournament of Champions.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Charlotte Corday is best known today for her assassination of Jean-Paul Marat during the French Revolution; Corday was one of many who had felt that the Jacobins were too radical—as opposed to the more moderate Girondins. In the September Massacres, the Jacobins killed nearly 1,000 prisoners out of worry that royalist armies were planning on attacking Paris to free the prisoners; Corday held Marat responsible for the killings and elected to assassinate Marat in his medical bath. The death was famously depicted in a Jacques-Louis David painting.
