Today begins the Mayim Bialik/Ken Jennings era of Jeopardy! Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 1980s Movies) for Monday, September 20, 2021 (Season 38, Game 6):
The Dip used to kill characters in this 1988 film consisted of acetone, benzene & turpentine, ingredients of paint thinner
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Tracy Pitzel, an accountant from Ellensburg, Washington![]() |
Carlo Anguili, a postdoctoral researcher from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania![]() |
Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Connecticut (23-day total: $825,801)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: As was mentioned above, today begins the Mayim Bialik/Ken Jennings era of Jeopardy!; this also means that Matt Amodio is now onto his sixth different host. Going forward, I also believe that I now have enough data to calculate Matt’s chances of winning based on each individual day of the week (for example, the prediction model believes that Matt is more likely to lose on a Friday than any other day of the week). Thus, the prediction model will use a slightly different calculation until Matt loses.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a 1988 live action/animated comedy film set in a world where live action and cartoon characters (“Toons”) coexisted; a character named Judge Doom creates the Dip as a method of executing Toons; the substance is allegedly harmless to the human characters. Another interesting bit of trivia about this film: it’s the only time that Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny appeared onscreen together, sharing a scene.

wow matt actually had a chance of losing based on the bidding in FJ
I heard “dip” and locked in the answer.
I’ll bet Matt was sweating bullets after Carlo answered FJ and before Tracy did! I’m sure he knew Tracy would wager big and if she got it right, he was going home.
Damn! A rare FJ that I knew right away while Matt didn’t. However, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a quite understandable incorrect guess with all that crazy flesh melting going on.
Matt’s “Raiders” answer was illegible…..he might have to be more careful. When Matt got the DD in the second half, I thought he should wager $11,000 and that would have taken care of the game. Tracy was a very strong player and I hope she is not too hard on herself for missing that last question. I don’t think it was that easy at all, because there were lots of movies in the 80’s to think of.
If only all finals could be 80s movies. Dont really like it though when finals deal with pop culture. Im lucky to get 20% of finals but I knew this one after the dip…
It’s odd that the actual title of the film is “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”–without a question mark. This grammatical anomaly has been unilaterally “corrected” by fans and pundits alike since 1988, and Carlo was in no jeopardy of being penalized for including a question mark in his response.
With or without a question mark, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” is, imo, one of the best movies ever made–animated or otherwise.
It seems that this clue might have been timed to coincide with Disneyland’s revamping of its Roger Rabbit ride so as to include barrels of “dip” as props. Also, the Rogerabbit film sequel (“WFRR” 2) is scheduled for release in February 2022.
A little late with this comment but – given Tracy’s apparent pop culture knowledge – I thought that she would get this for sure and was suprised when she didn’t. She’s from my state so I’m glad she made a good showing(to that point).
I agree with others that Mayim was much better this time around.
