Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Sea Life) for Tuesday, January 25, 2022 (Season 38, Game 97):
In 2018 National Geographic reported that half of this was dead, “akin to a forest after a devastating fire”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Maria Krasinski, a managing director & illustrator from Buffalo, New York![]() |
John Williams, a biology professor from Albany, Georgia![]() |
Amy Schneider, an engineering manager from Oakland, California (39-day total: $1,319,800)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Yesterday, Amy Schneider won her 39th game, passing Matt Amodio for the 2nd-longest streak of all time. She’s still 35 wins from passing Ken Jennings, though. We’re at the point of the streak where most of the analysts know that it’s going to take an unlucky set of circumstances for Amy to lose. I don’t really think anyone can truly pinpoint what specific day it will happen on, but I know that some analysts are starting to worry about Amy’s diminishing record in Final Jeopardy!—which will certainly make things easier for her opponents if Amy gets into a situation where she doesn’t have a runaway game.
On a more personal note, I mentioned last Friday that a Canadian game show that I wrote for last summer, Pop Whiz, premiered this weekend on Game TV here in Canada. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, episodes are available on Game TV’s website to watch. It’s a pop culture-based travelling game show where the production tapes in various small- to medium-sized cities throughout Canada, and local teenagers compete to win cash prizes.
Today is the seventh day of the JEOPARDY! Explore Alaska Sweepstakes. Winners will discover iconic, wild Alaska on an expedition aboard one of Lindblad’s 100-guest sister ships, National Geographic Quest or National Geographic Venture, accompanied by a team of naturalists, certified photo instructors, an undersea specialist and a wellness instructor.
To enter the JEOPARDY! Explore Alaska Sweepstakes, viewers are invited to tune-in to JEOPARDY! every weekday and enter the daily Final Jeopardy! category (today’s is Sea Life) on the sweepstakes entry webpage, sweepstakes.jeopardy.com. Then, they will be entered for a chance to win an expedition for two exploring authentic Alaskan coastal wilderness from the unique vantage of a small ship. Each winner and their guest will receive round-trip coach-class air transportation from the winner’s closest major gateway airport, $1,000 US spending cash, as well as all shipboard accommodations, meals (excluding alcoholic beverages), and activities for travel valid in 2022 or 2023.
I would also like to remind the readers that the above information is provided in order to be helpful to readers. This is just a fan site; I have no way of troubleshooting any potential issues that may arise. One thing, though: you have to enter the category before 11:59 PM Pacific Time each day.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

The National Geographic article from 2018 was titled Half of the Great Barrier Reef is Dead. Basically, rising ocean temperatures due to climate change is stunting the growth of the coral in the famed reef off the northeast coast of Australia.

Today’s interviews:
Maria co-wrote a book about “secret” art in New York.
John prefers to watch Jeopardy! with his 3-year-old daughter.
Amy is worried about more pressure on her during the Tournament of Champions.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Kudos to the writers for their SEE LIFE in the first round / “C” LIFE in the second / SEA LIFE in Final theme. It’s very rare for the show to string a theme through all three rounds.
- Amy’s weakest day of the week throughout her run has been Wednesday.
- Maria’s book is titled Art Hiding in New York: An Illustrated Guide to the City’s Secret Masterpieces”.
- With 1,309 total, Amy passes Matt Amodio (1,305) for #3 all-time in terms of number of correct responses given on the show.
- Both the $32,000 Coryat and $63,000 final total will make it onto our list of top Coryat scores and top final totals.

Seeing as though the Great Barrier Reef was mentioned on a recent episode of Cricky! It’s the Irwins, in which the daughter and her significant other were doing some studies of the Reef, this was an easy Final for me.
I think Ken may have overstepped a little when he gave a hint when revealing the FJ category. He said “this time as in under the sea.” He basically told them the correct response would be something underwater. It simplified the thinking process for the contestants, and he really shouldn’t do that. They didn’t have to think if there was anything on an ocean it could refer to.
It was solely a reference to the previous categories SEE LIFE and “C” LIFE, nothing more.
OK, but by doing that I still feel he gave the contestants an inadvertent hint that the correct response would be something underwater. It saves the contestants from spending any valuable time thinking about whether the clue might refer to some anomaly on the surface of the water.
I am so curious about who these “analysts” are that Amdy refers to in his notes. How do I get this job?? 😉
On the subject of how Amy will lose, as with Matt, I think people are overestimating the likelihood of her dropping a FJ in a non-runaway game to an opponent who gets it right. Yes, this is how Ken, Jason, and Roger lost, among others. But many others, including James and Matt, were outgunned in board play. Don’t discount Amy running into two strong challengers on an off day. She’s already been outgunned once, by Andrew He. And I worry that she won’t be able to make the big wagers when she needs to, as we saw with Jennifer Quail in the ToC.
I think recency bias is making folks think Amy is weaker on FJ than she is, too. She’s not Ben Ingram or James Holzhauer, but she’s very good. I think it’s likelier that she loses in a triple stumper in a non-crush than a straight FJ wromg-right situation.
Anyway, onward to 74!
Thank goodness for easy FJ answers! I was worried about running my losing streak to four games😰
Too soon to think about Ken’s record, the one I’m looking at is Matt’s regular season winnings.
