Today’s contestants:

Max Fronek, a creative director from West Hollywood, California![]() |
Christine Whelchel, a piano teacher & church organist from Spring Hill, Tennessee (2-day total: $44,600)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: After a game yesterday where both boards appeared to be a nightmare for all three contestants, Christine Whelchel pulled out her second victory. Max Fronek and Theresa Donohoe are the challengers hoping to prevent Christine from getting to win #3.
If the contestant photos from next week already seen on social media are any indication, we’ll be seeing Ken hosting again next week.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

The Hugo Awards have been awarded for science fiction literature at the World Science Fiction Convention since 1953. Retrospective Hugo awards have been awarded in some years to honor works from years prior to the first Hugos.
The mid-2010s saw a decline in the quality of the awards after a pair of slates, put forth by alt-right groups called the “Sad Puppies” and “Rabid Puppies”, dominated the 2015 and 2016 awards in many categories; this, sadly, saw more deserving authors denied the opportunity to be nominated for a Hugo in these years.

Today’s interviews:
Theresa was a TA in Normandy, France.
Max hosted at-home Jeopardy! with his family when he was younger, and insisted on being called Al-Max.
Christine does not own her own organ and is hoping to buy a digital organ with her winnings.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- With regards to HOW PUNGENT! 2000: As per Encyclopedia Britannica, “by the late 20th century, most Limburger was produced in Germany and the United States”. This is in spite of the fact that the cheese did originate in the Belgian province of Liège. Due to its extensive production in Germany, the show was not incorrect in stating German in that clue.

When I think of the Hugo Awards, one book Pegasus in Space by Anne McCaffery as she won the hugo award. She is the author of the bestselling novel Dragonriders of Pern. This was definitely helpful for me as I am a huge fan of science fiction books. Glad to see Christine and Theresa getting this one.
I guessed “The Hugos” even though I don’t recall hearing of the “Retro-Hugos” before (I see they been around under that name for 25 years!) A shame that Max missed on that FJ after playing a good game. Christine has a decent shot of pulling off a 4th win on Monday, giving her a leg up on qualifying for the ToC.
Christine is good and I’m glad she won another game! Would love to see her in the 2022 TOC. Though I will say, her Daily Double record so far is a bit concerning. Hopefully it doesn’t bite her on Monday.
