Jonathan Larson’s famous 1996 musical Rent was based on Puccini’s opera La Bohème of a century earlier, moving the opera from Paris to Lower Manhattan in New York City; tuberculosis in La Bohème became HIV & AIDS in Rent.
Sadly, Larson never saw his famed musical become the smash hit it became; he died suddenly of an aortic dissection in the early morning of the day Rent premiered off-Broadway in January 1996.

Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: Anthropologist’s Dictionary; The At Least 5 Labors Of Hercules; Reality Show Spin-Offs; More Than One Meaning; Oceans; 11)
There were some “early jitters” (Ken’s words) in the opening segment, including a three incorrect response Triple Stumper that saw Ken say “No harm, no foul”—even though incorrect responses do have differing harm to the three players (as it affects the proportion of the scores). Gurdeep also found the first Daily Double and went True Daily Double instead of the maximum $1,000 (which worked out for him, as he was unable to come up with a correct response).
Our three players seemed much more settled after the break. I also found the juxtaposition between Maureen’s more methodical play and the more hurried play from Miranda and Gundeep interesting.
Statistics at the first break (15 clues):
Maureen 5 correct 1 incorrect
Gundeep 4 correct 2 incorrect
Miranda 2 correct 1 incorrect
Statistics after the Jeopardy round:
Maureen 9 correct 1 incorrect
Miranda 9 correct 3 incorrect
Gundeep 6 correct 2 incorrect
Double Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: Ancient Warfare; Poetry Fill In The Blank; 14-Letter Words; First & Last Alphabetically; People In Science; The Osca”R”s)
Double Jeopardy! today saw a lot of high-valued incorrect responses (and a pair of missed Daily Doubles) keeping the scores down. Maureen’s more methodical play led to another two unplayed clues today as well, but she did hold a slim lead going into Final. Maureen had $9,400; Gundeep had $8,600; Miranda had $6,200.
Statistics after Double Jeopardy:
Maureen 14 correct 2 incorrect
Gundeep 15 correct 3 incorrect
Miranda 16 correct 6 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 38 (2 today).
In Final today, both Maureen and Miranda got the correct response; Maureen doubled up in Final and becomes a 2-day champion!

tsk Another one I missed originally and couldn’t remember the solution to on the replay 😅
Musetta! Of course it had to be La Boheme which I got immediately! But it took a minute (much longer than the time allowed contestants) to come up with Rent!
My son was a Theater major in Community College and they put on “Rent” as one of their productions. That made this an easy one both the first and second times. 🙂
