One week down, one to go! Jessica Stephens has claimed the 20th spot in this fall’s Tournament of champions. One of these nine contestants will claim slot #21; here’s my preview of Week Two of Jeopardy! Second Chance (presented by Moderna).
Monday, October 24, 2022:
![]() Sarah Snider Fishers, Indiana 21 correct, 3 incorrect 1/2 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities) 33.33% in first on buzzer (19/57) 2/2 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $7,000) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $17,400 |
![]() Jeff Smith San Diego, California 25 correct, 4 incorrect 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities) 43.86% in first on buzzer (25/57) 0/2 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: -$6,000) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $23,200 |
![]() Sadie Goldberger Columbia, Maryland 17 correct, 5 incorrect 3/4 on rebound attempts (on 6 rebound opportunities) 28.07% in first on buzzer (16/57) 1/1 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $600) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $9,800 |
Andy’s Preview Thoughts: Week Two’s opening match sees Sarah Snider, who held a commanding lead over Mattea Roach before being defeated in Final Jeopardy, Jeff Smith, who would have had a significantly high first-game score had it not been for going 0-for-3 on the betting clues, and Sadie Goldberger, who would have defeated Megan Wachspress if the Final Jeopardy! round was 31 seconds in length. While Sadie is certainly the sentimental favorite, there’s a good chance she’ll have difficulty against two very strong players. If Jeff can turn things around on the major clues, I really like his chances at victory in this game. |

![]() Tom Philipose Forest Hills, New York 20 correct, 1 incorrect 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities) 33.33% in first on buzzer (19/57) 1/1 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $1,000) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $18,600 |
![]() Alicia O’Hare Long Beach, New York 26 correct, 2 incorrect 1/1 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities) 43.86% in first on buzzer (25/57) 0/1 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: -$4,000) 1/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $22,200 |
![]() Jack Weller San Diego, California 16 correct, 1 incorrect 4/4 on rebound attempts (on 6 rebound opportunities) 17.24% in first on buzzer (10/58) 2/2 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $8,000) 1/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $13,200 |
Andy’s Preview Thoughts: Tom Philipose came very close to ending Ryan Long’s streak at 14. Alicia O’Hare put up more than two dozen correct against Yungsheng Wang—and would have beaten him had it not been for a pesky Daily Double. Jack Weller lost a tiebreaker to Brian Chang. If Jack can improve his first-buzz timing, he can play with anyone; Alicia definitely had the timing down her first time, though. I suspect that this will be the closest of the three semifinals—and even Reddit agrees, with all three players coming in between 30% and 35% on Bliss’ Reddit poll. |

![]() Nikkee Porcaro Silver Spring, Maryland 18 correct, 2 incorrect 2/2 on rebound attempts (on 6 rebound opportunities) 26.32% in first on buzzer (15/57) 2/2 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $4,500) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $17,000 |
![]() Do Park Minneapolis, Minnesota 17 correct, 1 incorrect 2/2 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities) 24.56% in first on buzzer (14/57) 1/1 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $4,400) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $14,400 |
![]() Rowan Ward Chicago, Illinois 22 correct, 3 incorrect 2/2 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities) 35.09% in first on buzzer (20/57) 1/2 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: -$3,000) 0/1 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $17,400 |
Andy’s Preview Thoughts: Back in June 2021, Nikkee would have been champion had it not been for a difficult Final Jeopardy! about Broadway—the Great White Way—that a lot of fans disliked. Do was one of a select few players to keep Amy Schneider from having a runaway, while Rowan Ward led Matt Amodio after the Jeopardy! round—and still had a lock-tie game against him, even though they missed a Daily Double. Rowan was rated so highly on Reddit that even the tabloids got on the Rowan bandwagon for this tournament. Rowan probably has the best likelihood of even going on a deep Tournament of Champions run, but we do play the games for a reason. I’m very excited to see what happens! |

Can anyone remind me what’s happening with Isaac Applebaum, from the college tournament? I thought he was playing second chance?
As was mentioned on “Inside Jeopardy!”, he was unable to take part for reasons that have not been made public. The show will endeavor to bring him back when Isaac is able.
