Missed amongst the hubbub of Executive Producer Michael Davies’ plethora of recent show changes was this one: co-hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will literally split hosting duties for every episode next season.
How will this work? Mayim and Ken will both read 30 clues per episode with the two hosts alternating clues. Jeopardy!‘s set designers have already begun work on a new double-host lectern to be ready for next September’s season premiere. The specifics on who will read Final Jeopardy! during each episode have still yet to be ironed out and will be revealed on an upcoming episode of Inside Jeopardy.
“Now all Jeopardy! fans—regardless of if they’re Team Mayim or Team Ken—will always have their preferred host reading the clues on the show. Everybody should be happy with this arrangement”, said Andy Saunders, editor of thejeopardyfan.com.
Jeopardy!‘s plans are not unprecedented in the world of quiz shows, as two-host quiz shows do have a history, at least in Canada: brothers Mio & Nobu Adilman split moderator duties on the early-2000s CBC high school quiz show SmartAsk! for the show’s final two seasons. While footage of SmartAsk! isn’t as accessible today, the two brothers generally did an excellent job; it’s clear to me that Jeopardy! was inspired by SmartAsk! to bring a two-host arrangement to American audiences.
One final thing about the September 11 premiere episode has also already leaked out: harking back to the time in the show’s history when the show would always have an early-season Final Jeopardy about the calendar, the Final Jeopardy! category of the Season 40 premiere has already been announced: “April Fools”.

Thankfully, I realized what the day was before reading the entire post. Actually, I realized it before I even got on my phone today.
That said, if they were to actually do this, I wouldn’t mind it as much as some might.
I will admit: you had me right until the last sentence.
I am going to tell myself that I bought the bit for so long because I scrolled past the photo while it was still loading.
This strikes me as a perfectly crumulent idea.
The first paragraph was enough.
Isn’t it obvious that the two hosts should each read alternate words of the Final Jeopardy! clue? That would be the only fair way . . .
Or give Mayim the Single Jeopardy categories and Ken the Double Jeopardy categories, then take turns with FJ…
