This game’s Jeopardy! Masters contestants:

Sam Buttrey, an associate professor at the Naval Postgraduate School from Pacific Grove, California (2 points)
Sam Buttrey on Jeopardy! Masters
Matt Amodio, a postdoctoral researcher from Cambridge, Massachusetts (6 points)
Matt Amodio on Jeopardy! Masters
Mattea Roach, a writer & podcaster from Toronto, Ontario, Canada (8 points)
Mattea Roach on Jeopardy! Masters

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Tonight’s opening game is interesting, in the respect that Matt absolutely has more to play for than either Mattea or Sam. With a victory in this game, Matt would turn the later game into a dead rubber; he would be on 9 points, 4 ahead of Amy, and would clinch a spot in the semifinals. Even if they finish third, Mattea (currently on 8 points) would have the tiebreaker over Amy (currently on 5), by way of Mattea’s two victories (to Amy’s zero). Even Sam has something to play for, even if Sam can’t advance at this point—if Sam wins and Amy finishes third, Sam would take the extra $25,000 for fifth place.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Maybe if the catefort had actually been the LATE show, like I thoought I.d originally heard, or, if the answer had refered to something domestic, I might have been able to come up with the correct response. But since it wasn’t..

Dang, the Masters tourney is fun to watch, but it’s killing my season average ;p
But thanks for showing me another thing to study more – Livingstone’s expeditions.

    Current FJ streak: 3L

  3. Really good to see Matt put it all together in this game.

Sam was such a pleasure to watch. I am sorry to see him go. Kudos for getting the FJ correct (history/geography are not my strong suits). Also, hats off to him for acknowledging the writers, our often unsung heroes.
