As with the 30th Tournament of Champions, the finals of the 31st Tournament of Champions is guaranteed to span the weekend. With all three players at a victory apiece, nobody will be able to get to three victories today. One thing’s for certain: this has been an incredibly evenly matched final between all three players, and some of the best gameplay ever seen on the Alex Trebek Stage. (There have only been 7 Triple Stumpers in the opening three games of the final!)

John Paul Jones, considered by some to be “the father of the American Navy”, was a commander in the Continental Navy during the American Revolution, was born near Kirkbean in 1747. After leaving Scotland (due to some legal difficulties), he surfaced in America. By 1779, he was given command of the ship that he is most associated with today, the USS Bonhomme Richard, which battled the HMS Serapis at the Battle of Flamborough Head in September 1779.
Again, I can’t see this Final Jeopardy being too difficult for our players today, though viewers at home well-versed in the Revolutionary War era probably won’t find it too difficult either. Also, I definitely like the fact that the writers have gone in the direction of “ask about deeper knowledge regarding someone that at least 95% of the viewers would be familiar with” on this clue.

- I would like to unequivocally state that Troy did not make any sort of wagering mistake whatsoever, and any reporter who says otherwise about this game is committing journalistic malpractice and should not be reporting on Jeopardy! strategy.
- Chances of winning the ToC for each player: Ben 57.225% (-160), Troy 25.606% (+270), Yogesh 17.169% (+450).

I got the clue right, but then I had a short Naval career. Troy losing in this fashion had to be a gut punch. The numbers for him losing were just right!!!
In each of his two wins, Ben has had the lowest Coryat by a sizable margin. Today Troy and Yogesh both more than doubled him. Just goes to show the importance of Final!
Although it did not matter in the end, I do not understand why Yogesh bet $5,200 instead of $5,201 or more.

Yogesh’s only correct bet is to go all in. He needs to get FJ correct to have any chance to win and second place is irrelevant, so there’s no additional downside to losing more money with a larger bet. He gets the upside of a potential tiebreaker if Troy does opt for the $7600 hedge.
Had Yogesh got FJ right today, we would have a tiebreaker between him and Ben with Troy back by $1. That would have been crazy!
The only American military figure I could think of being honored near a Scottish river was John Paul Jones. So, with knowing that the Tribe of Levi were the who dealt with laws at the time of Moses, I knew Wednesday’s correct response of What is Leviticus, and, figuring out today’s Final Jeopardy, I’m 2 of 4, so far this T of C. Just lucky that the FJ touched on things I knew somoething of, and/or, could reason out.
I can hear why some click bait articles wanted to say that on Tuesday Ben failed to “question an answer. There are times that the begining of his responses seem soft. Of course if there is any doubt, the people at the Judges table grab their headphones, and, replay the clue and response to make absolutley sure.
Wonder if Troy should have bet only $7,600 (instead of $7.601). Yes, he risks a tiebreaker with Yogesh if both are right. BUT, he also covers Ben with a tiebreaker if Troy is wrong.

If you’re Troy, you’re in a commanding position: there is absolutely no need to risk a tiebreaker here, especially after the most likely tiebreaker—with Yogesh—is more than likely to lead to a loss. (Considering just how dominant Yogesh had been on the buzzer over the past dozen clues.)
My analysis was based purely on probability/odds. You mix in buzzer speed, which I agree is a factor in tiebreakers. However, as a mere mortal, I have been unable to detect a clear advantage on buzzer speed among these three.
My rough analysis of probabilities leads me to conclude that a $7,601 bet is somewhat better than a $7,600 bet for Troy, totally putting aside who is likely to win a tiebreaker between Troy and Yogesh or Troy and Ben. But it would be interesting to see a full-blown statistical analysis.
If Yogesh goes all in, $7601 seems clearly better than than $7600. The former outperforms the latter for YYY and YYN outcome sequences (left to right), and the latter is better only for NNY. You have to think there’s some correlation among contestants’ success, so YYY would be the most likely of those three sequences. For any other sequence the distinction is moot.
However, if Troy thinks there’s a decent probability that Yogesh will bet less than everything, $7600 starts to look tempting. And he’d already seen one idiosyncratic wager by Yogesh this tournament.
Is Ben the first contestant to call a “True Daily Double” a “Juveria?” Will it stick?
I hope not. She’s not THAT unique with respect to true daily doubles.
Nope, once again I was hopeless on FJ. Now 0 for my last 14. WTH?!?! 🙁
But once again we were treated to awesome Jeopardy! These guys could probably play each other forever and we would probably never get 1 bad game!

Monday will be the time when, if Ben is once again in 3rd going into FJ, that both Yogesh or Troy bet enough for Ben to come back and win. This is when the strategy gets even more ramped up.
