27 players are now down to 9 in the 2014 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament; here is how the semifinals are shaking down:
Tuesday, April 2:
Amy Schneider +710 Oakland, California ![]() 1627 correct, 114 incorrect 81/98 on rebound attempts (on 220 rebound opportunities) 46.25% in first on buzzer (1498/3239) 74/88 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $230,400) 37/57 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $23,081 |
|
Jennifer Quail +760 Dowagiac, Michigan ![]() 354 correct, 42 incorrect 20/26 on rebound attempts (on 53 rebound opportunities) 42.53% in first on buzzer (336/790) 19/20 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $40,700) 13/14 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $18,757 |
|
David Madden +1100 Ridgewood, New Jersey ![]() 563 correct, 55 incorrect 36/43 on rebound attempts (on 111 rebound opportunities) 37.10% in first on buzzer (502/1353) 46/48 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $82,805) 18/25 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $18,288 |
Overall Thoughts: One thing that I definitely wanted to acknowledge is that I thought Jennifer was much better than her initial games when it came to Daily Double bet sizing. It’s as if she’s realized that she’s 32-for-34 lifetime on wagering clues! As the quarterfinals also proved, if Jennifer is in contention going into Final Jeopardy, she’s got a chance. I do think that Amy is probably the best player on the buzzer in this semifinal, and I do think she’s got the best chance of controlling the run of play.
Chances of Winning: Amy 36.000%, Jennifer 34.875%, David 29.125%.

Wednesday, April 3:
Larissa Kelly +500 Richmond, California ![]() 347 correct, 26 incorrect 16/18 on rebound attempts (on 43 rebound opportunities) 40.03% in first on buzzer (319/797) 17/21 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $49,000) 13/15 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $19,640 |
|
Andrew He +1000 Concord, California ![]() 495 correct, 69 incorrect 34/40 on rebound attempts (on 92 rebound opportunities) 32.35% in first on buzzer (461/1425) 29/38 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $127,600) 12/25 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $15,632 |
|
Sam Kavanaugh +830 Minneapolis, Minnesota ![]() 215 correct, 20 incorrect 5/7 on rebound attempts (on 36 rebound opportunities) 31.88% in first on buzzer (198/621) 17/19 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $87,200) 7/11 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $15,218 |
Overall Thoughts: This one’s coming down entirely to “who does the best overall on the Daily Doubles”; all three players have proved that they know how best to play this game. Unfortunately, only one of them can make the final, and while the prediction model likes Larissa, this one could easily go 4-3-3 if it was played ten times.
Chances of Winning: Larissa 39.588%, Sam 32.028%, Andrew 28.384%.

Thursday, April 4:
Matt Jackson +470 Washington, D.C. ![]() 541 correct, 29 incorrect 20/22 on rebound attempts (on 64 rebound opportunities) 43.64% in first on buzzer (487/1116) 37/40 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $162,995) 12/21 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $23,390 |
|
Sam Buttrey +2100 Pacific Grove, California ![]() 401 correct, 53 incorrect 17/21 on rebound attempts (on 65 rebound opportunities) 35.00% in first on buzzer (399/1140) 11/14 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $37,800) 9/20 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $13,960 |
|
Victoria Groce +530 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ![]() 79 correct, 17 incorrect 4/5 on rebound attempts (on 10 rebound opportunities) 51.20% in first on buzzer (85/166) 2/3 on Daily Doubles (Net Earned: $7,100) 2/3 in Final Jeopardy Average Coryat: $14,467 |
Overall Thoughts: The prediction model expects this to be a two-way battle between Matt and Victoria, but a 20% win probability is nothing to sneeze at! Sam could absolutely pull out a surprise win, especially if the Daily Doubles fall his way.
Chances of Winning: Matt 40.662%, Victoria 38.632%, Sam 20.706%
