Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, September 4, 2024

Note: This page contains spoilers for the September 4, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please also note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on April 5, 2024.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category U.S. Government) for Wednesday, September 4, 2024 (Season 40, Game 150):

The formation of the Brownell Committee out of concern over U.S. communications intelligence led to the 1952 creation of this body

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Andrew He, a stay-at-home dad from Concord, California
Andrew He on Jeopardy!
Victoria Groce, a writer & television personality from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Victoria Groce on Jeopardy!
Amy Schneider, a writer from Oakland, California
Amy Schneider on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today’s encore presentation is of Game 1 of the Jeopardy Invitational Tournament final between Andrew He, Victoria Groce, and Amy Schneider. I definitely felt going in that this final was going to be a battle on the buzzer between Amy and Victoria, and it was proven correct in Game 1: interestingly, Amy out-buzzed Victoria 21-17 in this one, with Victoria shut out over the final 12 clues. Remember as well that this was a first-to-two-victories final.

During the Korean War, President Harry Truman came to realize that the quality of strategic intelligence in the United States was regressing and was worse than the intelligence it had received during World War II. In response, a special committee was formed, chaired by New York lawyer George Brownell. It was recommended that a national communications intelligence agency be founded—national in that it was intended to deal with both armed forces and non-armed forces communications. By the end of 1952, the National Security Agency had been established, with General Ralph J. Canine as its first director.

  1. Hi, everyone – I’m feeling a little bit better than I did yesterday, and everything is a bit easier to process after a night of actual sleep. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at my comment in yesterday’s game thread.) It’s still an overwhelming situation, but a little bit less so. And when Lisa happens to read this – I’m very appreciative of you taking the time to send your well wishes yesterday. It means a lot.

That’s the extent of my good news for today, though – I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA with this Final, and threw out the CIA just so I could say I made an attempt. At least Victoria (arguably the strongest quizzer on the planet) had the same answer as me. 🙂

    Final Jeopardy Postseason Record: 25R – 3W

  2. Hello there MasterDoge. I just read your comments from yesterday and hope nothing but the best for your friend and I hope that things continue to a bit better for you each day.

And yes, that Victoria Groce story and sitting next to her husband is really cool. 🙂

I am looking forward to the start of Season 41 next Monday.
