Warning: This page contains spoilers for the November 29, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.
Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Airports) for Friday, November 29, 2024 (Season 41, Game 60):
This city’s intl. airport opened in 1942, just in time to be the destination of a flight at the end of a movie
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Nick Pietrowicz, a diplomatic security service special agent from Arlington, Virginia![]() |
Susan Beachy, a news researcher from Queens, New York![]() |
Laurel Day, a project manager originally from Austin, Texas (1-day total: $18,801)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
November’s final episode sees 1-day champion Laurel Day take on challengers Susan Beachy and Nick Pietrowicz. Laurel showed a lot of knowledge yesterday in her victory; it’s my hope that she has more confidence in her knowledge going forward (she bet just $400 on a Daily Double and came very close to not leading going into Final Jeopardy yesterday.) She’ll also need a victory in order to continue her Jeopardy career, as 1 win with just $18,801 will not be enough to qualify for Champions Wildcard in January.
While, much like yesterday, the game will likely have aired by the time this gets posted, I will be waiting until about 10 AM Eastern to post the game’s results in order to allow my regular readers to read the game preview without being potentially spoiled by results.
Another reminder that Matt Carberry has done his usual excellent job of detailing the schedule changes nationwide to today’s episode. If you’re concerned about when the show will air for you today, make sure to check out his Google sheet!

Correct response: What is Lisbon?
More information about Final Jeopardy:
(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Lisbon International Airport, once known as Portela and now known as Humberto Delgado Airport, was an airport in neutral Portugal during World War II. Due to Portugal’s wartime neutrality, the airport became a hub for those being smuggled into, out of, or across Europe during the war—a major plot point in 1942’s Casablanca.
If you’ve seen Casablanca and remember that they’re trying to get to Lisbon, this should be a relatively straightforward clue. If not, you’re probably going to struggle with this. This is also why the category name should be your absolute last consideration when determining Final Jeopardy bets and should get much less consideration than the show’s producers think it should—what you’re thinking will be a geography clue turns into what is essentially a classic film clue.

In a round with seven lead changes, Laurel found DD2 with a shot at the lead, but she was incorrect. Nick’s tentative bet of $1,100 on DD3, however, kept Susan close enough to make a comeback, and she retook the lead with a $2,000 correct response on the last clue of the round.

Nick 19 correct 5 incorrect
Laurel 13 correct 7 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 12 (0 today).

Andy’s Thoughts:
- KFSM (Fort Smith, AR) aired today’s game early.
- The hardcore strategists might not be thrilled with today’s result, but it’s worth a reminder that the winner is the person who finishes with the most money—no matter how one gets there.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Right movie. Wrong city.
me, too…..
Me Too
Me, too. I guessed Istanbul.
Nice FJ clue today. Of course I always say that when I get it right.
I saw Casablanca one time, so I forgot what city the clue was wanting. I will notice the city next time I watch the movie…
Only got this because of the movie. I agree with Andy that a better category for this clue would have been something like Classic Cinema.
I would really like to know how Susan came up with $2500 for her FJ wager. What was her thinking behind this wager? What is the strategy here?
Some people choose to pick a number that feels right to them.
And, as I’ve said before, that does makes the show more interesting, because “what did the player bet?” adds suspense to the proceedings.
Part of the randomness of life. 🙂
Such a shame not everyone saw this episode because of football. Now they wait until Johnny announces the “returning champion” to see who won
not if they read this site.
Jeopardy, thankfully in its entirety, was on here after that crazy Georgia Tech/Georgia college football game.
I went with Paris and being that this was in 1942, I was expecting to be wrong and I was.
0 for 5 for the week and 7 for 60 on the season. .117 batting average. That’s bad!
On to December’s Jeopardy!
I don’t know what episode was broadcsast in Chicago at approximately 1:35 am, Saturday, because of the football game ABC was carrying during it’s usual time, but the contestants didn’t match what Andy has here.
The Final Jeopardy shown here was a complete loss for me. Nothing in the clue answer meant anything to me, so I finished the week 2 for 5.
The first DD was a bit peculiar – both the accepted (after judge discussion) response of “pedagogy” and the intended response “academia” come from originally Greek roots but via Latin along the way, one more obviously Greek than the other but both undeniably so. “Academy” was the name of Plato’s school! The intended response fits the clue definition better but the accepted response doesn’t not fit the clue.
