Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, January 10, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the January 10, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Notable Americans) for Friday, January 10, 2025 (Season 41, Game 90):

Saying he fell in love with his country while a prisoner in someone else’s, he dedicated the rest of his life to public service

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Enzo Cunanan, a student from Orlando, Florida (Yesterday’s total: $21,800)
Enzo Cunanan on Jeopardy!
Sam Cameron, a finance manager from Fargo, North Dakota (Yesterday’s total: $3,400)
Sam Cameron on Jeopardy!
Drew Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi (Yesterday’s total: $5,000)
Drew Goins on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Today is the final day of Second Chance competition this season; it concludes with Day 2 of the Week 2 final. Enzo Cunanan has a big lead over both Drew Goins and Sam Cameron, with both Drew and Sam giving crucial incorrect responses during Game 1 of the final. However, Enzo’s lead isn’t insurmountable—because anything earned during the main game today can be doubled in Final Jeopardy, Enzo’s “effective lead” over Drew is only half of the $16,800 he actually leads by—$8,400—while Enzo has a $9,200 effective lead over Sam. (I should also note that I very much enjoyed it every time Buzzy Cohen would make reference to this during tournament play last season in Inside Jeopardy.)

Next week sees the start of Champions Wildcard; I hope to be able to publish a preview over the weekend, but that would be contingent on the show releasing quarterfinal pairings before Monday morning.

“I had loved her before then, but like most young people, my affection was little more than a simple appreciation for the comforts and privileges most Americans took for granted. It wasn’t until I had lost America for a time that I realized how much I loved her.” John McCain wrote that in his memoir Faith of My Fathers, speaking of his time as a Vietnamese P.O.W. After his retirement from the Navy, McCain became a member of the House of Representatives, a U.S. Senator, and Presidential candidate before passing away in 2018.

  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Sam: Standard cover bet over Enzo is $7,801. (Actual bet: $7,801)

Enzo: If Drew and/or Sam are incorrect, they fall below your Day 1 total. It doesn’t really matter what you do—but I might consider going all in here to force Sam to do the math right. (Actual bet: $2,999)

8 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, January 10, 2025"

  1. Tough one. I always assumed he loved his country before he was shot down and later went into politics as a career

    • If you had read Andy’s remarks (which he appreciates), you would have seen that McCain starts out, ‘I loved her before then’.

  2. Instant “get” John McCain. Wonderful man to admire, whatever your political inclination.

  3. Champions Wildcard matchups are posted (courtesy Zoe Grobman’s post on r/Jeopardy):

    https://www.jeopardy.com/track/2025/champions-wildcard

  4. John McCain seemed the obvious answer but I thought the “of someone else’s” phrasing was a bit odd. I briefly thought of Nelson Mandella but then noted the category and couldn’t think of anyone besides John McCain.

  5. Pretty close to immediately went to John McCain. Very unusual of me to get 2 FJ’s right back to back. 😉

Retro congrats to Drew and looking forward to see what he can do in Champions Wildcard.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  6. I join Sam in thinking of Lafayette (perhaps because I live one block away from Lafayette street).
