Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category European History) for Friday, February 7, 2025 (Season 41, Game 110):

At his trial, revolutionaries referred to the deposed Louis XVI with this last name, one used previously for a dynasty

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Neilesh Vinjamuri, a software engineer from Lionville, Pennsylvania (0 wins)
Neilesh Vinjamuri on Jeopardy!
Isaac Hirsch, a customer support team lead from Burbank, California (0 wins)
Isaac Hirsch on Jeopardy!
Adriana Harmeyer, an archivist from West Lafayette, Indiana (0 wins)
Adriana Harmeyer on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

It is time for the finals of the 32nd Tournament of Champions, as Adriana Harmeyer, Isaac Hirsch, and Neilesh Vinjamuri do battle in a first-to-3-wins competition. As I mentioned in my preview, Neilesh is favored at this point by virtue of having done slightly better than Isaac on Daily Doubles—despite the fact that Isaac has done better up and down the board. Additionally, Adriana is strongest of the three in Final Jeopardy.

One thing that I am also looking forward to on Monday is the unveiling of the field of the 2nd Jeopardy Invitational Tournament, which begins immediately following the Tournament of Champions. I do want to point out a couple of important things: firstly, the three players relegated from Masters—Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach—had JIT spots automatically offered to them because of their appearance in Masters. This is something that has been known to everyone involved the entire time, and the show has been very clear about this since the institution of Masters. Secondly, because of the relatively high likelihood that players might have chosen not to participate—either through other life events happening or a simple choice to “take a break” from the game—any accusations that the show is “snubbing” players are completely out of line, in my editorial opinion.

Correct response: What is Capet?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

As a direct male-line descendant of Hugh Capet, the dethroned Louis XVI was referred to as “the citizen Capet” at his trial during the French Revolution; after his execution, Marie Antoinette became known as “the Widow Capet”.

The Capetian dynasty has existed since its founding over 1,000 years ago; branches of its House of Bourbon still reign over Spain and Luxembourg. No, “Bourbon” shouldn’t be acceptable here—the clue clearly refers to Capet.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • The show wasn’t switching camera shots as often to a contestant close-up on responses—as someone who is definitely used to seeing the contestant respond with a close-up, it felt disconcerting to me. Of course, if this continues, it’ll feel like second nature to me eventually. That said: it did make me think that my television service was having video issues, even though I can see the advantage to staying on the “3-shot” from a “What’s the game state?” perspective.
  • From a betting strategy perspective, one important change is that more unorthodox strategies can be attempted in a ToC final, because a failed attempt does not automatically mean elimination (unlike most other situations). To that end, I don’t actually hate Adriana’s Final Jeopardy bet today, considering the situation.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Isaac $13,800 Adriana $11,400 Neilesh $11,400)

Adriana: I personally would pick either $0 or $11,400 here. The range between $4,801 and $6,600 does work as well if you think there’s a chance of Isaac betting small, but I personally would stay with either $0 or $11,400. (Actual bet: $6,000)

Isaac: Standard cover bet is $9,001. (Actual bet: $9,001)

Neilesh: I would pick either $0 or $11,400 here, depending on whether I liked my chances to be correct or not. The range between $4,801 and $6,600 does work as well if you think there’s a chance of Isaac betting small, but I personally would stay with either $0 or $11,400. (Actual bet: $11,400)

Updated ToC odds:

Adriana -120
Isaac +300
Neilesh +260

Finals length odds:

3 games: +720
4 games: +320
5 games: +220
6 games: +290
7 games: +680

15 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, February 7, 2025"

  1. No clue. Needing to name a dynasty, I just went with Ming.

  2. I’m happy that at least 2 of the 5+ day champions are in the WOC. Any one of them are certainly qualified to win it all.

  3. oops. I guessed Bourbon.

    • Me too, even though I prefer Scotch.

    • The only French dynastic name I know was Bourbon. Never had any of the drink, or, of scotch either.

      • The only French dynastic name I knew was also Bourbon. [I did have ‘Hanoverian’ “in my head” but I was certain that was German.] I have drunk bourbon (with Coke or Sprite) in my 20s, but I was familiar with the French dynastic name due to Bourbon Street in New Orleans, though I’ve never been there.

  4. The only French dynastic name I could think of was Merovingian. A strike to end the week, but I can’t be too mad about missing a ToC Finals Final Jeopardy.

  5. Misunderstanding the clue, I went with Bourbon. 🙁

  6. I guessed Capet. And yesterday I guessed Valley of the Queens. Definitely on a roll!

  7. Andy or MasterDoge!

Question: Is Adriana’s winning score today the lowest winning score in a TOC Final?

  8. FJ and I didn’t get along well tonight! LOL

Great game amongst these 3, that’s for sure. Andy’s stats of lead changes proves that!

Retro congrats to Adriana on win #1. It’s going to be great Jeopardy next week.

Thanks for letting us know that the JIT field will be released on Monday. Looking forward to seeing that field.

Have a great weekend all! 🙂
