Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Geography) for Tuesday, August 26, 2025 (Season 41, Game 122):
Located on an island, in 2016 this world capital began following two different time zones

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Quarterfinal #7 of the 2025 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, as our encore presentations of the summer of 2025 continue, featured a matchup between a Tournament of Champions winner in Robin Carroll and a pair of superchampions in Ray Lalonde and Ryan Long.
With this tournament taking place amidst the backdrop of the beginning of 2025’s trade war between the United States and Canada (I’m pretty sure that Pierre Poilievre still had close to his 20-point lead in the polls when this episode originally aired, a lead that he rather famously lost by election time a couple of months later), I was definitely cheering for Ray in this one.

Correct response: What is Nicosia, Cyprus?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Due to the continuing disputes regarding control of the island of Cyprus, 2016 saw the rather unique situation of the city observing two different time zones. In the fall of 2016, Turkey—the only country that recognizes Northern Cyprus—announced that it was staying on summer time year-round. In response, Northern Cyprus announced it was following Ankara’s lead, leading to the very unusual situation of half of Nicosia being on UTC+3 and half of Nicosia being on UTC+2, depending on whether you were in Cyprus’s territory or Northern Cyprus. It also led to significant confusion near the border when GPS-enabled cell phones got a user’s location incorrect. (Certainly, I’ve accidentally had my phone get my location incorrect once or twice during my own experiences in Niagara Falls, right on the Canada–U.S. border.)
As I said back in February, though, by the autumn of 2017, the island once again unified its time, and I do still wish that the wording of this Final Jeopardy clue had “briefly followed” instead of “began”.

Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! today? Here’s the Tuesday, August 26, 2025 Jeopardy! by the numbers, along with a recap:
As is often the case with modern Jeopardy!, this one went the way of the Daily Doubles. Ray broke open a relatively close game when he doubled up on DD2 early in Double Jeopardy. However, he only bet $3,000 of $12,400 on the last Daily Double near the end of the round, which left enough of an opening for Robin and Ryan to make sure the game wasn’t a runaway going into Final Jeopardy. Once Final Jeopardy saw a Triple Stumper for the second straight night, though, Ray’s crush-sized lead saw him through to the semifinals. (Although, Robin, sitting in third place going into Final Jeopardy, absolutely did not bet enough in Final, apparently playing for second in a situation where there was no financial difference between second and third place.)
Scores going into Final:
Ray $17,000
Ryan $9,800
Robin $9,200
Tonight’s results:
Robin $9,200 – $601 = $8,599 (What is Paris?)
Ryan $9,800 – $9,700 = $100 (What is Bangkok?)
Ray $17,000 – $2,601 = $14,399 (What is Copenhagen?) (Semi-Finalist)
Game Stats:
Ray $13,200 Coryat, 18 correct, 4 incorrect, 33.33% in first on buzzer (19/57), 0/1 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Robin $9,000 Coryat, 18 correct, 3 incorrect, 31.58% in first on buzzer (18/57), 1/2 on rebound attempts (on 4 rebound opportunities)
Ryan $9,800 Coryat, 14 correct, 2 incorrect, 26.32% in first on buzzer (15/57), 0/1 on rebound attempts (on 5 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $32,000
Lach Trash: $12,800 (on 10 Triple Stumpers)
Coryat lost to incorrect responses (less double-correct responses): $9,200
Lead Changes: 4
Times Tied: 3
