Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Italian History) for Tuesday, April 1, 2025 (Season 41, Game 147):
3 mighty city-states roughly forming an equilateral triangle were Venice, Florence & this one where the Viscontis & Sforzas ruled
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Kristen Ramsey, an assistant professor from Storrs, Connecticut
 |
Conner Huey, a student from Bremerton, Washington
 |
Bryce Wargin, a post market surveillance coordinator from Kansas City, Missouri (1-day total: $15,400)
 |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Josh Weikert’s 6-game win streak ended yesterday at the hands of Bryce Wargin; today, Bryce faces off against Conner Huey and Kristen Ramsey. Barring an expansion of the postseason compared to 2025, it is extremely likely that he’ll need another victory in order to make it to postseason play; he currently has a 0.07% chance of qualifying for Champions Wildcard.
Remember, with today being April 1, there’s always a chance that the show will put some sort of April Fool’s Day gag into the episode—but there’s a chance that they won’t as well.

Known as Mediolanum in Roman times, Milan has been an important city for two milleniums. It forms a roughly equilateral triangle with Florence and Venice, with roughly 250 kilometers between each pair of the three cities; due to its geographical position, Milan has prospered as a major European trade center. The Visconti family ruled the city from 1277 from 1447, while the Sforzas ruled until 1535. Upon the death of Francesco II in 1535, the city came under the rule of Philip II of Spain.
This should be a relatively straightforward Final for anyone with reasonable knowledge of European history or geography.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Bryce is 4.03% to qualify for the Tournament of Champions and 45.22% to qualify for Champions Wildcard. I believe that it is best to assume no changes to the postseason format with my current prediction model until and unless I am informed otherwise by an announcement from the show itself.
 - Because this might come up later: On the “open source” clue, according to my cursory search of the OED website, Kristen’s response of “freeware” was added to the OED many years ago (c. 2008), therefore it does not fit a “New to the OED” category.
 - Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Easy FJ for anyone who has visited Milan, since the Sforza Castle is a prominent landmark in the city center. If not, you might still work it out from the triangle part of the clue.
My mental geography was a little off, I guessed Genoa.
Guessed correctly. Not really an educated guess other than it’s an Italian city and the geography seemed correct.
Same here. Italian city and geopgrphy.
Ken never mentioned this, but all the correct responses in the category WORDS WITHIN WORDS rhyme with each other.
The answer was easy for me because I had watched the “The Borgias” on Showtime, and the Sforza family had a major role in the plot.
(Of course, never mind a good bit of the history was apocryphal, just as it was with “Rome” on HBO.)
Fortunately, my thoughts didn’t get to either Genoa or Turin — only Milan and Naples, and the former made much more sense geographically.
Speaking of the date, it’s too bad we didn’t get the bonus content here that has appeared in recent years. One possible direction for it: a headline of “A Change Of Heart About r/Jeopardy”.
