Today’s Final Jeopardy – Tuesday, December 2, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the December 2, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Celebrities) for Tuesday, December 2, 2025 (Season 42, Game 62):

An Ivy League grad, actress & author, she was Vogue’s youngest cover girl at 14 & was called the face of the 1980s

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Eli Selzer, a post production manager from Los Angeles, California
Eli Selzer on Jeopardy!
Anne Martyn, a high school English teacher originally from Los Gatos, California
Anne Martyn on Jeopardy!
Libby Jones, a recruiter from Davenport, Florida (1-day total: $24,801)
Libby Jones on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

52 weeks to the day after her sibling Evan won—and thus, ironically, Evan being featured on the show’s Daytime Jeopardy! reruns yesterday and today—Libby Jones got to play Giant Killer on Jeopardy! in defeating Harrison Whitaker. Today, she gets to defend her title against a pair of Californians in Eli Selzer and Anne Martyn.

It’s not often that I take time to discuss strategic minutiae in this section, but I do think that this is worth mentioning. One thing I noticed yesterday is that Libby made a very strong Final Jeopardy wager—when in a situation like Libby’s, in second place with your score within four-fifths of the leader (and third place out of contention), the minimum suggested wager is twice the score difference plus one dollar, because, as Stevie Ruiz proved to Evan 52 weeks ago, it is possible for the leader in this situation to make a bet that forces second place to be correct in Final Jeopardy. Second place betting twice the score difference plus a dollar is the best defense against that, with the close difference in score also ensuring that second place still can play for a Triple Stumper and a cover bet from the leader. (And, yes, Evan made sure that Libby was very aware of the possibilities of a four-fifths game before Libby taped; I really liked that Evan took the time to realize where their own strategy went wrong after their appearance and made sure Libby didn’t make the same mistake.)

Correct response: Who is Brooke Shields?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Brooke Shields has spent nearly her entire life as an A-list celebrity, beginning her career as a model before transitioning into acting, including nude scenes well before turning 18. These roles, approved by her mother Teri even as public worry regarding child sexual abuse was rising, led to many of her films being banned in many jurisdictions. Her career, though, was on hiatus from 1983 through 1987 as she attended—and graduated from—Princeton University.

She was also—and I suspect this is what has caused today’s Final Jeopardy to be relevant in 2025—in a controversial jeans ad, with Shields appearing in an ad for Calvin Klein (with the controversy surrounding whether a 15-year-old should be delivering innuendos in a television advertisement.)

Aided by DD2, it took all of 8 clues for Libby to overhaul Eli’s lead. As she didn’t like the category, a conservative bet on DD3 meant a very tightly contested battle between Libby and Eli over the final dozen and a half clues, as Libby held a slim lead entering Final Jeopardy.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Libby 25 correct 1 incorrect
Eli 25 correct 2 incorrect
Anne 4 correct 1 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 6 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

We have a triple get in Final Jeopardy today; Libby went for the big wager in Final Jeopardy and is now a 2-day champion! She’ll go for win #3 tomorrow.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Libby $25,200 Eli $23,000 Anne $2,200)

Libby: Standard cover bet over Eli is $20,801. (Actual bet: $20,801)

Anne: Your only chance of winning here requires you to go all in, as Libby falls to $4,399 if she’s incorrect. (Actual bet: $0)

Eli: As Libby demonstrated yesterday, this is a four-fifths game. Bet between $4,401 (defending against a possible bet between $2 and $2,199 from Libby) and $18,599 (keeping Anne locked out.) (Actual bet: $2,201)

19 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Tuesday, December 2, 2025"

  1. First thought was Mayim Bialik, but then remembered Brooke Shields was at Princeton at the same time as a buddy of mine – and was more likely to be on the cover of Vogue. As it turns out, Mayim Bialik didn’t go to any Ivy League school.

  2. Brooke Shields was the Natalie Portman of her time. (IYKYK)

This was an instaget for me. As a sports nut, I remember when she was linked with Andre Agassi.

  3. One of those facts I read and filed away for a day like today.

  4. Oh…yes…I got this one correct. Brook Shields is still one of my favorite (ex) cover models.

  5. My first thought was my first celebrity crush, Jodie Foster. But the “face of the 1980s” part of the clue didn’t seem to fit because she fit the 1970s more at the time. Then I remembered that Brooke went to Princeton, and the elements of the clue fit her to a t, leading me to choose her as my response.

    • I really thought that I had got this Final Jeopardy when I came up with “Who is Jodi Foster?” as she might be the “cover girl” for actors with academic degrees. I don’t know if Jodi is an author, she was a cover model, though later than Brooke. I guess you might say it was close but no cigar.

      • Same Bill! I said Jodie Foster very quickly and Brooke never entered my mind. I had no idea Brooke got an Ivy League degree.

        • Brooke having an academic degree, much less one from a prestigous university, is something I didn’t know either. Though I think the list of actors with academic degrees might be larger than we realize.

  6. I guessed Carrie Fisher because of the “author” part of the clue, but I had a feeling I was wrong.

  7. Has Andy or anyone else compiled a summary listing the subsequent success of Giant Killers like Libby? The player who beat Ken, the player who beat Amy, Matt, Mattea, Ryan, Chris P, Adriana, etc.?

    • Nancy Zerg (Ken Jennings) – lost her next game
Victoria Groce (Dave Madden) – lost her next game; would later come back and win JIT and Masters in 2024)
Diana Peloquin (Arthur Chu) – lost her next game
Brian Loughnane (Julia Collins) – lost her next game
Michael Baker (Matt Jackson) – lost his next game
Margie Eulner Ott (Seth Wilson) – lost her next game
Scarlett Sims (Austin Rogers) – lost her next game
Emma Boettcher (James Holzhauer) – won two more games for a total of three victories; placed second behind James in the 2019 ToC
Gabe Brison-Trezise (Jason Zuffranieri) – lost his next game
Jonathan Fisher (Matt Amodio) – became a giant himself, winning ten more games for a total of 11 victories; lost ToC quarterfinal to Andrew He
Nancy Donehower (Jonathan Fisher) – lost her next game
Rhone Talsma (Amy Schneider) – lost his next game
Danielle Maurer (Mattea Roach) – won a second game, lost her third
Eric Ahasic (Ryan Long) – won five more games for a total of six victories; made it to the semifinals of the 2022 ToC before, much like Jonathan F., losing to Andrew He
Andy Tirrell (Cris Pannullo) – lost his next game
Lloyd Sy (Ray Lalonde) – won a second game, lost his third; interestingly, lost to Andy Tirrell in the 2024 CWC
Drew Basile (Adriana Harmeyer) won six more games for a total of seven victories; was seeded into the semifinals of the 2024 ToC but lost that to Neilesh Vinjamuri
Jonathan Hugendubler (Scott Riccardi) – won a second game at the beginning of the season, lost his third game

Prior to Libby, giant killers were just 7-for-18 in winning a second game or more; however, unsurprisingly, Libby has brought the record to 8-for-19, and I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see her set up a 2027 ToC rematch with Harrison… provided she makes it through Ron Lalonde tomorrow, of course!

  8. All of those clues pointed to Brooke Shields as I remember well the controversy surrounding her early modeling career, especially, the Calvin Klein ad as well as the controversy around the movie “The Blue Lagoon” with Shields and Christopher Atkins. It was fun to see her years later on a few episodes of a little-known TV show called “Friends.” JK about “Friends” being little-known.

    • Brooke Shields was the first name that popped into my head. She suffered many slings and arrows through the years and has come through it well. A strong, intelligent woman. 🙂

  9. Retro congrats to Libby on a great comeback to win her 2nd! I know it’s early, but have a hunch we’ll see Eli in a Second Chance in about a year.

  10. Brooke Shields is who came to my mind first, but I thought she was a bit too old [by 5-10 years?] to fit this clue, so then I guessed Reese Witherspoon since her very recently co-authoring a mystery novel could have made this clue timely. As it turned out I was also guessing her to be older than she actually is [also by 5-10 years].

  11. Well, this is weird — when I got to the bottom of reading this 12/2/2025 write-up, not only were no comments showing, but the slim banner above the comments section said “0 comments. Be the first to post.” I was astonished there had been none, but I typed in my comment, hit ENTER, and when the page rematerialized (positioned as usual just below my comment), I could see that there was at least one comment before mine, so I assumed they had been typing about the same time I had been but hit ENTER sooner. I scrolled up a bit, saw that it was from much earlier in the night and continued to scroll up, now seeing all of the comments which had not appeared (or been accounted for) earlier.
