Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 20th Century Movie Memorabilia) for Tuesday, March 3, 2026 (Season 42, Game 127):
In 2025 a pine hardwood prop famously known by this name sold at auction for $14.75 million
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Monterey Salka, a chef from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
|
Quentin Powers, a returned Peace Corps volunteer from Arlington, Virginia
|
Noah Hamilton, a marketing manager from Saint Paul, Minnesota (1-day total: $9,990)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Noah Hamilton is your defending champion. He won $9,990 yesterday. Quentin Powers and Monterey Salka are your challengers.
However, I think there’s a much more pertinent reason to use this section this morning; the above paragraph is deliberately terse. After another period where multiple people in this community have aired (or attempted to air before being shouted down) complaints about bullying, this community needs to be brought to reckoning about how it treats people. Ken Jennings himself was happy to pile on one of them, to the point where a prominent creator in this community was so disheartened by Ken’s participation in an Internet dogpile—that went as far as revenge porn being posted—that she has chosen to permanently withdraw her work from the community. That creator was simply trying to bring attention to the way trans people are systemically treated by many in the mainstream media, many of whom are actively facilitating the elimination of the trans community, and has not in any way deserved the resulting reaction and treatment.

Apologies in advance for the spoiler for an 85-year-old film: Even though Citizen Kane saw “Rosebud” the sled be burned in a fire, multiple identical copies of the prop sled were made for the film (presumably in case multiple takes were required to get the burning just right). One of those, saved from the former RKO lot in the mid-1980s by director Joe Dante, went up for auction in 2025, where it sold for $14.75 million.
This feels like a current events final where half the point is to amplify a Hollywood news item that a lot of people may have missed. We shall see how it plays.

Game Recap:
Today’s game was a back-and-forth battle between champion Noah and challenger Quentin; Quentin jumped out to an early advantage, but Noah stormed back thanks to finding both Daily Doubles immediately in Double Jeopardy, getting both correct and jumping from third to first by the ninth clue of the round. The remaining clues of Double Jeopardy proved to be a see-saw battle between champion and challenger, with Noah taking a very slim lead into Final Jeopardy.
Final Jeopardy, though, saw Quentin wrest victory back by way of being the only player of the three to get Final Jeopardy correct. That makes him your new champion; he’ll be back tomorrow to defend his title.
Scores going into Final:
Noah $12,800
Quentin $12,291
Monterey $5,000
Tonight’s results:
Monterey $5,000 – $4,997 = $3 (What is the Spruce Goose?)
Quentin $12,291 + $1,909 = $14,200 (What is Rosebud?) (1-day total: $14,200)
Noah $12,800 – $11,783 = $1,017 (What is The Maltese Falcon?)

Game Stats:
Quentin $14,200 Coryat, 22 correct, 3 incorrect, 36.84% in first on buzzer (21/57), 2/3 on rebound attempts (on 7 rebound opportunities)
Noah $10,600 Coryat, 16 correct, 5 incorrect, 24.56% in first on buzzer (14/57), 1/5 on rebound attempts (on 7 rebound opportunities)
Monterey $5,000 Coryat, 14 correct, 6 incorrect, 35.09% in first on buzzer (20/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 2 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $29,800
Quentin Powers, to win:
2 games: 44.396%
3: 19.710%
4: 8.750%
5: 3.885%
6: 1.725%
Avg. streak: 1.798 games.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- I know there are some fans who get upset any time a contestant shows any emotion whatsoever on stage. I say, let people actually show some emotion. I want to see contestants happy when they win!
- Unfortunately, I don’t know the significance of Quentin’s bet sizing at the moment. Maybe it will come out—if it does, it will make its way into tomorrow’s preview.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Noah $12,800 Quentin $12,291 Monterey $5,000)
Noah: Standard cover bet today is $11,783. (Actual bet: $11,783)
Quentin: Any bet between $1,019 ($1 more than double the score difference between you and Noah, to cover his entire small range) and $2,290 (thereby keeping Monterey locked out) works equally well here. (Actual bet: $1,909)
Monterey: You will need an overbet from Quentin to have a chance here, but that happens more often than you think. Bet no more than $3,982 to stay ahead of Noah in case Noah makes the standard cover bet and is incorrect. (Actual bet: $4,997)
