“Fortune Favors The Bold” (and other TMQ musings)

Tonight’s challengers for Stephanie Jass: Shaanti Kapila and Carlo Abulencia.

J! round categories: 29 & HOLDING; BODY WORKS; NEW DEAL PROGRAMS; WHAT’S THE SPORT?; BRAND NAMES; “OCK”-TOBERFEST

As someone that is 29, I don’t know if I like that 29 & HOLDING category!

Surprisingly, though, it wasn’t Stephanie who got to the first Daily Double, it was Carlo! Under BRAND NAMES $800 it was. Carlo had scores of:

Carlo $800
Shaanti $800
Stephanie $200

Carlo took the opportunity to bet $1000. His clue: An animated character called Willy the Hillbilly was an early spokesperson for this soda. Unable to come up with anything but a guess, Carlo’s incorrect response put him to -$200.

It was Stephanie who got her buzzer working again by the end of the first break, and after 15 clues we saw scores of:

Stephanie $2800
Carlo $1400
Shaanti $1000

As it turns out, Stephanie’s husband made sure to tell Stephanie a bunch of things about tools during Stephanie’s preparations – which proved to be serendipitous on yesterday’s show!

That said, I’m impressed with Stephanie’s get on the following (29 AND HOLDING $1000): At the 1968 Summer Olympics, he broke the 28-foot barrier in the long jump, & the 29-foot barrier too

At the end of the opening round, we had scores of:

Stephanie $6,200
Shaanti $3,400
Carlo $3,200

DJ! round categories: BESTSELLERS; YOU CAN FIND ME ONLINE; TREATIES; STUBBORN WORDS; OLD STATE CAPITALS; POP CULTURE MUSINGS

Stephanie was up to her old tricks this round, getting to the first Daily Double early this round; under BESTSELLERS $1200. Scores:

Stephanie $9,800
Shanti $4,200
Carlo $3,200

Stephanie bet clue value here. Her clue: Naturally this singer/songwriter titled her memoir “A Natural Woman”. Her correct response put her to $11,000.

The final Daily Double was found at the bottom of TREATIES, but it was Shaanti that saw it! Scores:

Stephanie $18,600
Shaanti $7,400
Carlo $1,600

Alex: “You can do yourself a world of good right here.”
Shaanti: “I think I’m going to be conservative here and go for $3,000.”
Andy: *writes “game over” in his notebook*

Stephanie’ll be around a long time, folks, if her challengers don’t take advantage of these opportunities!

Shaanti’s clue: In the 1921 Thomson-Urrutia Treaty, Colombia got $25 million for recognizing this country’s independence. Needless to say, Shaanti gave an incorrect response, and then the game was well and truly over.

Going into Final, your scores:
Stephanie $20,600
Shaanti $8,000
Carlo $5,200

FJ! category: AMERICANA

FJ! clue: The creator of this comic strip did not like its 1950 change in title, believing it suggested insignificance

Carly 5200 + 3000 = 8200
Shaanti 8000 + 2500 = 10500
Stephanie 20600 + 3000 = 23600
