Andy here with another recap!
I don’t think Jeanie mentioned this, but Judy Cole, competing on tomorrow’s show, is a friend of mine from competitive Scrabble; I’m looking forward to watching her! Will she be up against, Andrew, though?
Today’s challengers for 3-time champion Andrew Moore are Caitlin Peruccio and Tom Hanson!
Andrew has 3 young children at home and has hinted that he wants to use his winnings to help put them through college!
J! round categories:
RHYME BOSS
A BIBLICAL ANATOMY LESSON

APPOINTEES TO THE COURT
GEOGRAPHIC FOODS
THE WALT DISNEY FAMILY MUSEUM
APPOINTEES TO THE COURT $1000 held the first Daily Double, and Andrew’s bouncing around hit it on the 3rd clue of the game! He’d been the only player to score with $800 in front of him and bet $1,000. His clue: In 1668 Charles II appointed John Dryden to this post, but 21 years later William III removed him. It took me a little bit to get this because I was expecting a judge question, but I did get it! Andrew also got it after some thought. Alex commented, “And in a way, that’s good news for Caitlin and Tom, because you found the Daily Double very early when it couldn’t do you a lot of good.”
I was incredibly disappointed that the “99” category had no questions regarding Wayne Gretzky! At the first break, the scores were:
Andrew $4,800
Caitlin $1,600
Tom $1,400
One point of correctness: Andrew said he caught a home run ball at the Home Run Derby at the 1999 All-Star Game held in Atlanta. 1999 was Boston’s All-Star Game; they honoured Ted Williams that day. 2000’s was Atlanta. (Now back to your regularly scheduled recap.)
Coming out of the break, all 3 contestants had luck in getting in, and Andrew didn’t get off to as much of a lead as in previous days! Scores at the end of the J! round:
Andrew $8,800
Caitlin $3,800
Tom $3,200
DJ! round categories:
CRIME BOSS
AUSTRALIAN CAPITALS
ALBUM COVERS
YOU SAY TOMATO
LITERARY LATE BLOOMERS
I SEE A “GHOST”
Andrew switched out of LITERARY LATE BLOOMERS to go to ALBUM COVERS, and when Caitlin switched back over, she found the Daily Double at $1600! Scores were:
Andrew $9,200
Caitlin $5,600
Tom $3,200
Caitlin shyly bet $3,000. Her clue: This older pal of Kerouac & Ginsberg debuted as a novelist with “Junky” when he was 39. I didn’t get this either; Caitlin’s response of “Shepherd” brought her score down to $2,600.
I got the following Triple Stumper (ALBUM COVERS $1200): 2011: Lady Gaga’s body morphs into a motorcycle while her arms reach down to grasp the front wheel
The final Daily Double stayed hidden for awhile! It didn’t help that Tom saw no point in Daily Double hunting, going to $400 clues! Meanwhile, Andrew kept his score building! The final Daily Double was under AUSTRALIAN CAPITALS $800. 2 $400 clues were left, with the following scores:
Andrew $21,600
Tom $8,400
Caitlin $5,400
(By the way: We’ve already seen questions about Perth, Hobart, and Brisbane. That leaves Sydney, Darwin, Adelaide, and Melbourne.)
The book says that Andrew should bet no more than $3,199. In this situation, I’d personally probably want to put a lot more money on the line. This would be as close to a wheelhouse Daily Double as I would ever hope to see on the show. Andrew bet just $1,000, though. His clue: This capital of Victoria was the first capital of Australia, serving from 1901 to 1927.. Andrew went for Sydney and only lost $1,000. (Yes. I did get Melbourne…)
Going into Final, the scores were:
Andrew $20,600
Tom $8,800
Caitlin $5,400
FJ! category: WORLD LEADERS
FJ! clue: Since 1991, this country has had only 3 different Presidents; the current one took over in 2012 for the second time
Caitlin 5400 + 3401 = 8801
Tom 8800 – 8750 = 50
Andrew 20600 – 2500 = 18100 (4-day champ, $107,402)
And he will defend tomorrow against Judy! Jeanie will recap it; we’ll see you then!
