A Fitting Result

Andy here with a recap; it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me! (I’ve had one of the worst colds I’ve ever had for the past week or so — and it certainly hasn’t been pleasant!)

Also, I’ll have more information coming on this, but “A’s Bad As It Gets” looks to be released on December 7, 2013!

Linda Vestrand and Hunter Sandison are the challengers today to Ben Ingram! Ben won $42,030 over his first two games. Will he make it onto our ToC list tonight?

J! round categories:
TENNIS THE MENACE
TV LOGOS
THE ORIGINAL 31 FLAVORS
4-LETTER “V”ORDS
A CONNECTICUT YANKEE
IN KING ARTHUR’S COURT

Ben’s first selection was A CONNECTICUT YANKEE $600. It had the Daily Double. Betting $1,000, his clue: This patriot began his one life in Coventry, Connecticut on June 6, 1755. His immediate correct response started his game off with $1,000.

Calling for 4-LETTER “V”ORDS seemed really awkward. By the end of the first segment, the scores were:

Hunter $3,000
Ben $2,600
Linda $1,000

Linda forgot to put film in her camera for her honeymoon photos! That’s a problem people just don’t have anymore!

Ben has spent time reading newspapers over a statewide radio network for the benefit of the blind, or others, who wanted to tune in and listen!

Coming out of the break, Hunter had a great amount of success on the buzzer and started to pull away! Linda misspoke on the IN KING ARTHUR’S COURT $1000: King Arthur and this nephew of his kill each other in battle; Linda got it mixed up with “Mordor” from Lord of the Rings (and it cost her $1,000.)

TENNIS THE MENACE was a category full of various tennis injuries!

Scores at the end of 30:
Hunter $6,800
Ben $4,000
Linda $1,400

DJ! round categories:
LITERARY MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
BOTTOM FEEDERS
BEFORE & AFTER
CONTAIN YOURSELF
TITLE ROLE PLAYING
AN “F” IN HISTORY

Hunter, along with Ben, started hunting for Daily Doubles. It was Ben who had the most success with it, though! AN “F” IN HISTORY $1200 had the first one, and it was Ben’s clue to play. Scores:

Hunter $8,400
Ben $5,600
Linda $1,400

Ben bet $5,000. His clue: His 2000 election as President of Mexico ended 71 years of uninterrupted control by the PRI Party. Ben was only able to come up with Juarez, and his score fell to $600.

Ben made efforts to get back into the game, though! I’m always a big fan of Before & After; the $2,000 clue was as follows: “Founder of the Girl Scouts in America who is a collective name for Belgium, the Netherlands & Luxembourg”

BOTTOM FEEDERS $1600 had the final Daily Double, and it was Hunter’s to play! Scores at this point were:

Hunter $10,800
Ben $5,400
Linda $2,600

Hunter bet $3,000. His clue: This animal has no head, arms or internal organs & belongs to the phylum Porifera, meaning “pore-bearer”. Hunter went for coral and fell to $7,800.

Hunter did have luck on a couple of the remaining $2,000 clues on the board, regaining his lost money on the Daily Double! Scores going into Final:

Hunter $15,800
Ben $10,200
Linda $3,400

FJ! category: 20th CENTURY MUSIC

FJ! clue: European music has “3 Bs”; 20th century American music’s “3 Cs” were John Cage, Elliott Carter & this composer/conductor

Linda 3400 – 3399 = 1
Ben 10200 + 1000 = 11200
Hunter 15800 – 4600 = 11200

Considering the mistakes made in this game, I think a tie may have been a fitting result. I’m surprised Jeanie didn’t say anything when the number of Hometown Howdies was one short! (Go back to Monday and look if you don’t believe me.)

I’ll have the recap of the rematch tomorrow!
