Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, August 5, 2026

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the August 5, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that today’s game is an encore presentation of the game that originally aired on January 14, 2026.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category English Place Names) for Wednesday, August 5, 2026 (Season 42, Game 93):

Once called Grontabricc, it’s named for a structure spanning a tributary of the Great Ouse River

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Harvey Silikovitz, an attorney & worldwide karaoke singer originally from West Orange, New Jersey
Harvey Silikovitz on Jeopardy!
Ian Morrison, an airline ramp agent originally from Aurora, Colorado
Ian Morrison on Jeopardy!
Stella Trout, a software engineer originally from Houston, Texas
Stella Trout on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Our third of three semifinals for Winter 2026 Champions Wildcard is between Stella Trout, Ian Morrison, and Harvey Silikovitz, with one of these three players joining Cameron Berry and Jonathan Hugendubler in the two-game total-point final tomorrow and Friday for the last spot in the 33rd Tournament of Champions.

I know I’ve spoken about this tradition before during the summer on the first Wednesday in August, but in my current home of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, today is a holiday—one of the few weather-dependent holidays on the planet. The Royal St. John’s Regatta takes place today, and the day of the regatta is a civic holiday. The weather-dependent part, though: conditions need to be suitable for rowing in order for the regatta to take place, and the holiday gets delayed if the regatta is delayed. (Thus, a number of St. John’s locals play “Regatta roulette”, partying the night before in the hopes that the regatta goes ahead the next day and they don’t have to go to work.)

What is now the English university city of Cambridge is named for the series of bridges that have crossed the Cam River (a tributary of the Great Ouse River) at the town site since Anglo-Saxon times; the current bridge on the site is the Magdalene Bridge (or the Great Bridge), with the town area being named Grontabricc (or “bridge over the Granta”) when the Anglo-Saxons began occupying the area in the 5th century.

Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: Wild, Cards!; Classical Music; We’re Beefing; In The Movie’s Title; It’s Good To “B” In The City; Word Origin Languages)

Harvey got off to the best start, and then consolidated his advantage with a $4,000 True Daily Double. He led after 15 clues; scores were Harvey $8,000 Stella $4,200 Ian $1,200.

Statistics at the first break (15 clues):

Harvey 6 correct 0 incorrect
Stella 6 correct 0 incorrect
Ian 2 correct 1 incorrect

Today’s interviews:

Harvey watched every Golden Raspberry Worst Picture winner as a pandemic project and is now a Razzie voter.
Ian has an in-law who is Ken’s doppelganger.
Stella has been studying Gen-Z slang.

Ian and Stella played well after the break, but Harvey continued to lead on the strength of his Daily Double. On the opening board, Harvey went 3/5 in classical music, while Ian went 3/5 in beef (aided by a Julia Child impression that would even make Bob Verini happy.)

Statistics after the Jeopardy round:

Harvey 9 correct 0 incorrect
Stella 8 correct 0 incorrect
Ian 10 correct 1 incorrect

Scores after the Jeopardy! Round:

Harvey $8,800
Stella $5,000
Ian $4,200

Double Jeopardy! Round:

(Categories: 2020S Vision; Some Science; Family TV; Bills Of Rights; 3-Named Authors; I’m “CC”ing You)

It looked like Stella had knocked herself out of contention, falling back to $0 after a miss on DD2. But—proving why it’s a good idea to go all in early—she came all the way back, taking a lead entering Final Jeopardy. (Though, Harvey’s incorrect response on DD3 did help as well.) On the second board, Stella went 4/5 in 3-named authors.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Stella 20 correct 1 incorrect
Ian 17 correct 2 incorrect
Harvey 15 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 8 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Stella $14,000
Ian $10,600
Harvey $9,800

Harvey and Stella were correct in Final, which was fortunate for Stella, as she only bet to cover Harvey and not Ian. Ian’s incorrect response thus puts Stella through to the final tomorrow and Friday.

Tonight’s results:

Harvey $9,800 + $9,800 = $19,600 (What is Cambridge)
Ian $10,600 – $9,001 = $1,599 (What is Oxford?)
Stella $14,000 + $5,601 = $19,601 (What is Cambridge?) (Finalist)

Stella Trout, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the August 5, 2026 game.)

Andy’s Thoughts:

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Stella $14,000 Ian $10,600 Harvey $9,800)

Stella: Standard cover bet is $7,201. Because Ian has occasion to go all in due to his own situation, you should make the cover bet. (Actual bet: $5,601)

Ian: You’re in Stratton’s Dilemma; you can’t both play for a Triple Stumper and cover Harvey. Bet either between $0 and $799 if you want to play for the Triple Stumper, or go all in (but at least $9,001) in order to force a cover bet out of Stella. (Actual bet: $9,001)

Harvey: Bet between $1,601 (in case Ian makes a small bet) and $2,999 (in case Stella covers). (Actual bet: $9,800)
