Andy Dislikes NCAA Football

Hello! Andy here with the last recap of the week!

Today’s contestants:

Bryce was introduced as a “wine cellar rat”; Johnny chuckled as he was reading it out! Will Steven make it 2 wins today?

J! round categories:
ON THE MAP
CELEBRITY INSURANCE POLICIES
SLOGANEERING
GET “DOWN”
THE NIXON YEARS
THE LEAST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD

THE NIXON YEARS was the first category played and it had the first Daily Double on the third clue of the game! Steven got the first two clues to be at $600. Steven bet $1000. His clue: Where do I begin to tell the tale of this tearjerker that topped the New York Times Bestseller List for most of 1970. Steven seemed very unsure of his response, but was correct! He went to $1,600!

Bryce did very well in the geography category, getting 4 of the 5! At the first break, the scores sat at:

Tracy $3,400
Bryce $2,000
Steven $1,400

Coming out of the break, Steven found his buzzer mojo and stormed into the lead!

THE LEAST INTERESTING MAN IN THE WORLD was a fun parody of the Dos Equis commercials! The scores at the end of 30:

Steven $7,800
Bryce $3,800
Tracy $3,800

DJ! round categories:
AMERICAN LITERATURE
COATS & JACKETS
HAILED FROM WALES
STATE OF THE MOVIE
BOTANY
WORDS WITHIN WORDS

STATE OF THE MOVIE was much harder than I anticipated it would be!

When Bryce got control, though, he started Daily Double hunting. He found the first one under COATS AND JACKETS $1600 (though it was a video clue in what otherwise wasn’t a video category!) Scores:

Steven $12,200
Tracy $8,200
Bryce $4,600

Bryce bet $2,500. The clue: This trademark long raincoat is perfect for the weather condition in its name. His correct response put him at $7,100!

Even though Steven negged on the previous clue (HAILED FROM WALES $1200: While not much is known about his life, we do know that his feast day is March 1), he still saw the Daily Double under $1600! The scores were:

Steven $11,400
Bryce $10,700
Tracy $8,200

Steven bet $1,000. His clue: Taste testing chocolate bars for Mr. Cadbury inspired his most famous kids’ novel. Steven could only come up with the book title and fell to $10,400.

Not sure I really liked the clue choices by Bryce in the game’s final minute. He had a $700 lead and picked an $800 clue with a $400 clue still on the board. Needless to say, Steven got that clue and when the end-of-round signal went, Steven had a $100 lead.

Two clues remained hidden (WALES $2000, BOTANY $400).

Scores going into Final:

Steven $11,200
Bryce $11,100
Tracy $8,200

FJ! category: COLLEGE SPORTS MASCOTS

FJ! clue: In 1947 Walt Disney made a handshake deal to let this university use one of his major characters as its mascot, still in use today

Tracy 8200 – 3001 = 5199
Bryce 11100 + 5301 = 16401
Steven 11200 + 11100 = 22300

As I said to Jeanie and Robert yesterday, “just because US college sports are on in Canada doesn’t mean I enjoy watching them”, and I can’t say I’m a fan of the Oregon program as it is!

Steven’s now a 2-day champion; $41,100!

I’ll be back next week with five more recaps!
