Jeopardy Encore Presentation Recap – August 2, 2016

This game originally aired on November 10, 2015 as part of the 2015 Tournament of Champions.

Today’s contestants:

Kristin Sausville, a stay-at-home mom from Newark, DE
Brennan Bushee, a software developer from Malden, MA
Greg Seroka, a chef from Detroit, MI

A lot of talk has happened about Kristin’s small Daily Double wager of $200 in this game. A larger wager here would have helped her chances to advance significantly. However: the way the stats bear themselves out, Kristin made a very intelligent wager her in my opinion. As Bob Harris often speaks in Prisoner of Trebekistan, it’s just as important to know what you don’t know. Lifetime on Daily Doubles up to that point, Kristin was 3 for 9 — on “regular difficulty” Daily Doubles to boot. It was also a $2,000 clue in a category in which $1,200 and $1,600 were both stand-and-stare Triple Stumpers. In my opinion, Kristin would have been seriously foolhardy to bet more than $200. As we all saw, she knew that $2000 clue. I did, too, playing along at home. Sometimes the roulette ball doesn’t fall in the slot you want it to. Them’s the breaks. What I do know is that if I were Kristin, I would be incredibly proud about how I played this game today.
