Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Monday, December 5, 2016:
Final Jeopardy! category: NAME’S THE SAME
Final Jeopardy! clue/answer: Name shared by one of a trio of young chums in a popular book series & the daughter of Menelaus & Helen of Troy
(correct response beneath the contestants)
|Matthew Martinez, a draft equipment salesman from San Antonio, Texas
||Yi Deng, a subrights assistant from Jersey City, New Jersey
||Tim Aten, an editor from Vermilion, Ohio (1-day total: $35,000)
What is Hermione?
Of course, the popular book series trio is Harry-Hermione-Ron from Harry Potter.
In terms of the mythological Hermione: the best description of her would be that in the time of the Trojan War, she was accidentally betrothed to both Neoptolemus and Orestes (one by her father, one by her grandfather), and in the ensuing struggle, she ended up running off with Orestus; Hermione and Orestus had a son together, Tisamenus.
Sources differ, though. Ovid in Heroides seems to claim the double-betrothal existed, Euripides in Andromache disputes it.
