Today’s contestants:

Rachel Levinson-Emley, a literature Ph.D student from Goleta, California
Julie Brannon, a professor of English from Jacksonville, Florida (1-day total: $28,400)
What is godspeed?
Looking to find out who won Jeopardy! tonight? Today’s Jeopardy! results will go up on this page late afternoon, with full stats early evening. They will be seen in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

“Godspeed, John Glenn” was told to the astronaut by mission controller Scott Carpenter, just prior to the takeoff of Friendship 7 on February 20, 1962.

I’m genuinely surprised by the quick turnaround on this Final Jeopardy! clue as well. On last week’s #JeopardyLivePanel, Kevin Shrum mentioned that last week’s episodes were taped on December 7. John Glenn died December 8. While I’m not sure which side of Christmas this episode taped on, there’s a very good chance that this episode taped within 2 weeks of John Glenn’s death.

This SHOULD be a 3/3 or that everybody left for FJ will get it. HOWEVER, I am very reluctant to make “radical” predictions such as 3/3 or 0/3. I have seen too often that even the most “Duh!” clue was screwed up and on the other hand a clue where you would say “NOBODY” will get it could play out this way: one of the contestants happens to read an article in a magazine on the flight to L.A. (never has heard or read about it before), or by some coincidence somebody mentioned the answer when some people come together and all kind of things are talked about. One player googles something entirely different, BUT (there is always a “BUT”) he goes from link to link and all of a sudden ends up at a site that happens to mention the solution, though by now s/he is on a completely different subject.
So I will say TWO will get it correct and I am curious if we can break the one day champion spell today…..?

It flicked by too quickly for me to catch who and what and how much the judges accepted a negative answer to a positive. Can anyone tell me? With three attractive female competitors and questions popping from all over the board, keeping track of everything can be confusing. The only “incorrect” answer I thought should have been accepted was Maypole, which I recognized immediately. Is there somewhere a website that gives more information?

I missed the flag question on a flag modeled after the American Flag. I thought Alex said the Indonesian Flag, but obviously not!
