Correct response: Who is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart?

Did you know that you can now find game-by-game stats of everyone, including Austin Rogers, who has won 10 or more games on Jeopardy!, here on the site?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

When Mozart died in 1791, he was buried in an unmarked grave, his remains lost. The more fanciful theories surrounding his death included that he was poisoned by a student who was upset that Mozart had been philandering (namely, with the student’s wife), but 21st century researchers decided to match the symptoms Mozart had been reporting shortly before his death (swelling, back pain) to other disease outbreaks in Vienna between 1790 and 1792. It was discovered that there was a severe outbreak of strep throat in a nearby military hospital near the time of Mozart’s 1791 death, and it has since been surmised that Mozart died from complications from that outbreak.

  1. Got this one in one second! One of my favorite composers. I got to visit Vienna in 1971-72 winter break from teaching in Norway and my brother-in-law was on sabbatical in Germany and we all drove to see Vienna and other sights. Dark and dreary but no snow in the streets.

    • So did I. Doesn’t hurt that I was born in Vienna till I was about 35 and am a big fan of classical music. My favorite piece by Mozart is his piano concert No.21, after the movie came out in 1967 just called “Elvira Madigan”.

  2. Congrats to Scott!! In terms of money he is # 7, having surpassed Kyle, but Kyle has won 4 games… The downfall was that there was no reference to music or composers….So Scot is now #8, over 10 K ahead of Ali. I think we will see both in the ToC unless J postpones it.
    Have a great weekend everybody!

  3. Surprised at least one of them didn’t get that. Having Vienna in the clue was a huge hint I thought. Anyway, congrats Scott.

  4. Wasn’t the theory that Mozart was poisoned debunked a long time ago? Was it ever considered anything more than a legend? I assumed it was something Peter Shaffer came up with – or at least a story that he propagated?

  5. Vienna gave it to me. I vaguely remember the movie and thought Salieri was somehow involved with his death. Poisoning? Why not! I’ve had a Triple Stumper Final every week this month. Must be a personal record for me. “Perth” last week was dumb luck, but I’ll take it. Now for some destructive drinking to celebrate 🙂
