Correct response: Who is Nathaniel Hawthorne?

Did you know that you can now find game-by-game stats of everyone, including Austin Rogers, who has won 10 or more games on Jeopardy!, here on the site?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

Novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The House of the Seven Gables based on the legend in the Hawthorne family of a curse placed on the family by a woman condemned to death in the Salem witch trials of 1692 and 1693. Hawthorne believed that his family’s fall from prominence, while other Salem families thrived in the shipping industry, was retribution for his ancestors William and John Hathorne’s role as magistrates and judges in the trials.

Julian Hawthorne was a writer, journalist, and civil engineer who wrote “Garth” in Europe. It was originally serialized in Harper’s Magazine in 1875, and according to Google Books, was published in book form in 1877.

  2. I’m unfamiliar with the House of Seven Gables, but it seemed like the sort of thing Hawthorne might have written about. I remember there being some gothic elements in The Scarlet Letter.
