  1. He may not be my favorite poet, but he’s the only Welsh poet I know and I did recognize the spelling as Welsh. Once again a close game. I’ll actually be home tonight to watch the questions and answers.

  2. I like Eric’s FJ answer.

  3. I was at this taping and have been eagerly awaiting for the world to see Eric’s FJ response. Someone, please turn this into a GIF so I can make use of it on Facebook and Twitter!

State in the southeastern corner of the states is Florida not New Mexico. New Mexico would be the southwestern corner.

  5. Jackie left out the “S” in Strawberry Field”s”. Both times.

    • I personally heard an “S”. Evidently, so did the judges, because they would have otherwise walked it back.

The judges have much better audio in studio than we do at home.

  6. You did a good job copying Eric’s sketch answer for FJ. The middle is a real “letter” in Japanese kana writing. Two strokes show a change from voiceless to voiced in the syllable. Kanji are the Chinese-based characters. I have a Japanese Bible that has kana symbols alongside the Kanji so that less educated people can pronounce the words. Japanese is a totally different language from Chinese, with many endings. Chinese looks like a solid block of relatively complicated symbols but Japanese has the kana syllables all over the place. When I lived in Norway I was exposed to Finnish and Lappish and BRIEFLY considered doing my linguistics doctoral dissertation on the remarkable similarities to Japanese phonology and syntax but decided I needed something not so difficult to complete. The contact would be over the ice-covered Arctic Ocean, much closer than further south.

  7. Man, Idk, lemme just ¯_(ツ)_/¯
