Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Geography) for Wednesday, January 13, 2021 (Season 37, Game 78):
The Oyapock river forms part of Brazil’s 400-mile border with the territory of this European country
(correct response beneath the contestants)
As I said in my recent editorial, if you’re going to express an opinion about one host or another, I ask that you make thoughtful, reasoned arguments. A lot of your opinions on one host over another are going to be a matter of personal taste. Please also remember that a permanent host will not be named until the start of Season 38.
Today’s contestants:
Cameron Whiteside, a real estate agent from Mesa, Arizona
|
Josiah Jenkins, a risk management professional originally from Rugby, North Dakota
|
Lucy Ricketts, an illustrator originally from Atlanta, Georgia (1-day total: $33,100)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Lucy showed she wasn’t afraid to play aggressively when she needed to, parlaying a $9,000 True Daily Double into a big win yesterday. With a 71.7% chance of winning today per the prediction model, the chances are good of us seeing the post-Trebek era’s first multi-day winner.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2020 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Yes, France does still have territory in South America; French Guiana is an overseas department of France; as recently as 2010 its voters voted for full integration into the French state. It’s the only territory in the Americas to be fully integrated into a European country. A large part of the French Guiana economy is due to the fact that the Guiana Space Center is located there; it serves as the European Space Agency’s primary launch site near the equator. (Launch sites as close to the equator as possible are preferable because it takes less energy to maneuver a spacecraft into orbit from the equator.)
Due to impeachment proceedings today against President Trump, there will be delays today. That being said: Some things—like holding insurrectionists to account—are more important than Jeopardy.

I would love to see John Hodgman as the next host.
Thank you very much Andy for reminding us that impeachment proceedings may cause delays or preemptions and that bringing the culprits of that awful assault on our democracy to justice is of utmost importance.
Ellen degeneres would be a good host too
It’s incredible that this came up as a Final Jeopardy. It’s even more incredible that Lucy missed it considering her performance so far. Obviously Suriname and Guyana are independent countries, as well as the other ten entities on South America’s mainland, leaving French Guiana as the only one of Brazil’s neighbors that is not an independent country, and obviously the “French ” in the name implies that it belongs to France.
