Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, January 25, 2021

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Geography) for Monday, January 25, 2021 (Season 37, Game 86):

Of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, these 2 on opposite sides of it are the smallest & largest in area

(correct response beneath the contestants)

As I said in my recent editorial, if you’re going to express an opinion about one host or another, I ask that you make thoughtful, reasoned arguments. A lot of your opinions on one host over another are going to be a matter of personal taste. Please also remember that a permanent host will not be named until the start of Season 38.

Today’s contestants:

Elliott Kalan, a writer originally from Millburn, New Jersey
Elliott Kalan on Jeopardy!
Madeline Johnson, a digital marketing manager from Portland, Oregon
Madeline Johnson on Jeopardy!
Brian Chang, an attorney from Chicago, Illinois (4-day total: $88,102)
Brian Chang on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Brian survived the third regular-play tiebreaker in Jeopardy! history on Friday for his fourth win. Whoever makes it to Thursday gets to deal with the returning Zach Newkirk that day. Will Brian get the 5th win that he needs to get into the next Tournament of Champions?

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

This, in my opinion, is a tough one. Once you realize what the correct responses are, it’s more obvious—Monaco is one of the world’s smallest countries, and Algeria is 10th-largest—but getting to that point is the difficult part. If you get lost at any point along the way, the chances of you being able to write down the correct response in 30 seconds go down significantly.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • This is the first game with a first break taking place on Clue 17 or later since May 12, 2010.
  • Brian had the advantage in Final Jeopardy, because the scores had Elliott in “Stratton’s Dilemma”—he could not both bet to win a Double Stumper with Brian and bet to cover Madeline.

4 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, January 25, 2021"

  1. I was thinking Monaco and Turkey, I didn’t even give African countries a chance. I also didn’t know Algeria is so big, it’s almost double the size of Turkey.

  2. If Brian were to make it to Thursday, he would be a 7-day champ. Would that be the first regular play game with multiple 4+ game winners?

  3. I hope they do the four letter before and after again, I liked it.
