As I said in my recent editorial, if you’re going to express an opinion about one host or another, I ask that you make thoughtful, reasoned arguments. A lot of your opinions on one host over another are going to be a matter of personal taste. Please also remember that a permanent host will not be named until the start of Season 38.
Today’s contestants:
Gabriela Kaufman, a fashion buyer from San Francisco, California![]() |
Stephen Newman, an attorney originally from New Hartford, New York![]() |
Brian Chang, an attorney from Chicago, Illinois (5-day total: $116,503)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Brian won his fifth game yesterday after getting a difficult Final Jeopardy! correct. Now that Tournament of Champions (ToC) qualification is secured, everything now is just gravy. If he makes it to Thursday, though, he’ll get to battle Zach Newkirk, the 4-time champion from the end of last season, finally able to return to defend after being unable to make the trip back to Los Angeles to tape thanks to the pandemic. (I hope this is a sufficient explanation for those who were not around at the end of last season.)
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is “1999”?

Prince’s smash hit song “1999”, released in 1982, charted highly on its release in 1982, charted again in the year 1999, and then re-entered the Billboard charts again in 2016 when Prince passed away that year. Interestingly, Phil Collins listened to the song significantly while touring with Genesis, giving that as an explanation as to why the Phil Collins hit “Sussudio” is musically similar to “1999”.
