It’s Friday, March 19, 2021, the end of the week and Katie Couric’s last day of hosting the show. Over Couric’s first 9 days of guest-hosting Jeopardy!, the show has raised $200,703 for Stand Up to Cancer. What will today bring? Today’s Final Jeopardy is:
Artists: The February 17, 1901 death of his friend Carles Casagemas made this grief-stricken artist change his color palette
(correct response beneath the contestants)
The Jeopardy! community is mourning the loss of Brayden Smith, who passed away on February 5. The Brayden Smith Memorial Fund has been established, dedicated to furthering the educational aspirations of Southern Nevada students.
Today’s contestants:
Nick Cascone, an orthopedic physician assistant originally from Queens, New York![]() |
Jilana Rose-Silverberg, a data analyst originally from Madison, Wisconsin![]() |
Morgan Briles, a librarian from Nacogdoches, Texas (2-day total: $37,200)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Morgan has gone 2-for-2 on Final Jeopardy and it’s propelled her to two victories. Will today be the day that we see a 3-day champion? Morgan was much better on the signalling device yesterday (21 times in first instead of 15 on Wednesday); she’ll need to keep that up in order to have a good chance of winning today.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to receive vaccinations as soon as it becomes available to you, and for you to keep wearing your masks properly. Ensure your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Pablo Picasso’s “Blue Period” was a result of the death of fellow painter Carles Casagemas (who had been stricken with depression over his being unable to consummate a relationship with the woman he loved); this period was characterized by works tinted blue and blue-green; several posthumous portraits of Casagamas are a part of this period, including 1903’s La Vie.

Like yesterday, I guessed this one despite not knowing much about the subject.
I’ve said on these pages before that I disagree with the aphorism “it’s always easy if you know it.” At the very least, questions like these suggest that the converse isn’t true. Just because you don’t know something doesn’t mean it’s hard, though of course guessing itself takes strategy and is doubtlessly orders of magnitude harder on stage.
Would love to see Morgan make it three in a row, but Nick checked in on Reddit, and Jilana is a fellow data analyst. Guess it’s a win-win-win!
Sadly, I won’t be able to watch tonight’s episode due to the NCAA tournament
Let me say first that I believe all of us Jeopardy fans really appreciate Andy’s website and the work he puts in for all of us. I absolutely want to abide by all the rules so I hope that my critique of Katie as host is seen in that light. I think she did a good job for sure. I think there were times when she made comments like “my daughter writes for them” or some clues answers were “my favorite or I’m a big fan, etc. I thought too many personal comments didn’t feel right or professional for that matter. It should be said I certainly like her but she didn’t seem like the right fit. I’m anxious to read other reviews. Thank you.
Chet and everyone else:
Alex would often add personal touches to clues – many clues about Golden Age movies and their stars would include wistful comments from Alex.
How are Katie’s personal touches different from what Alex did?
Chet, I agree. The comment re: her daughter seemed inappropriate to me, too. I also felt that at times, she sounded condescending toward the contestants, imo.
Katie had a talk show that caused Jeopardy! to move from 3:30 to 2:30 in the Chicago area. Jeopardy! fans were unhappy with that. It’s now back to 3:30.
Thank you for having this site. The last few minutes of our broadcast were interrupted by President Biden’s special report, so Final Jeopardy was not shown. i wsa hoping that Morgan could come from behind again, but all three performed well today.
I got picasso, but since studying these painters reminded me of the geosafari great artists quiz game that I took previously. Let me just say that Katie is doing a great job hosting jeopardy so far and she will continue making progress for next week.
Katie Couric’s stint as guest-host has ended. I felt that she did a pretty good job.
Next week starts Dr. Oz, unfortunately.
Alex did inject commentary into his hosting at times, but I agree with Chet’s comments about Katie Couric. She’s a good host, but the personal comments(as opposed to commentary) are overdone and annoying after a certain point, and I did find myself saying out loud “Who cares?” after the daughter one. You’re not alone Chet, just being honest.
I think the personal asides are set up by the writers, to learn something about the guest hosts and their interests. Since they are just passing through, this is tolerable. I wouldn’t be judging the celebrity hosts like this was a job interview, she did just fine.
Well, in my honest opinion, Katie K. has done the best so far. She was very clear speaking which made her very easy to understand. Ken Jennings just did not have the best voice for a game show. He seemed to be nervous & jumble his words. I can’t remember the guy after Ken, but he seemed to be trying too hard to impress; he just didn’t fit for me! I MISS ALEX 😞
Morgan was a delightful champion and I would have tuned in next week to continue watching her.
But now I can take a 2 week break. :-/
I’m going to miss Katie — her warmth and smile could brighten anybody’s day. I looked forward to each of her shows. A smile and cheerful disposition are never bad things.
Women always seem to be under more scrutiny than men, especially those in the media. I’m sure Katie has heard her share of sexist and downright misogynistic criticism. The comments on this forum did not stoop to those lows, thankfully, so that was a plus for all concerned.
Katie Couric comments on her hosting session. Fun but not for me…….
