Today’s Final Jeopardy – Monday, April 5, 2021

Today is Monday, April 5, 2021. It’s Aaron Rodgers’ first day guest-hosting; all of the contestants’ winnings over his two weeks of hosting will be matched and donated to the North Valley Community Foundation. For those who are football-unaware, and there are a few in the Jeopardy! fandom who are, Rodgers is the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, reigning NFL Most Valuable Player, and Celebrity Jeopardy! winner from 2015. You can find Aaron’s guest host interview at Jeopardy!’s YouTube channel. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy:

Daytime TV Personalities: Accepting a Lifetime Achievement Emmy, he said, “Just take… 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

The Jeopardy! community is mourning the loss of Brayden Smith, who passed away on February 5. The Brayden Smith Memorial Fund has been established, dedicated to furthering the educational aspirations of Southern Nevada students.

Today’s contestants:

Jobeth Thomas, a database architect from Carrollton, Georgia
Jobeth Thomas on Jeopardy!
Brandon Deutsch, a student from Long Beach, California
Brandon Deutsch on Jeopardy!
Scott Shewfelt, a writer originally from Tavistock, Ontario, Canada (2-day total: $46,800)
Scott Shewfelt on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Scott won the final two games of the Dr. Oz era, but a new host will mean a new cadence to get used to. It’s been a very long time since someone has won three games. Will Scott be able to break that curse?

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Fred Rogers, the much-beloved host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on PBS, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 at the Daytime Emmy Awards.

In his speech, he said, “All of us have special ones who loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are, those who cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life. 10 seconds, I’ll watch the time. Whomever you’ve been thinking about, how pleased they must be to know the difference you feel they have made.”

You can watch the entire speech on YouTube.

The 2018 documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor was made by Morgan Neville about Rogers’ life.

I wasn’t thinking that children’s shows qualify for Daytime Emmys. I was thinking serials, game shows, and talk shows. I thought of Phil Donahue as the pioneer in the talk show field. Now of course Mister Rogers makes sense. I need to expand my TV knowledge.

  2. I suppose it was just a coincidence that Brandon, like Aaron, attended UC-Berkeley. When Aaron said “Go Bears” he meant of course Golden Bears, not the Chicago Bears.
