Good morning! Today is Friday, April 9, 2021 (Season 37, Game 140). $88,825 has been raised thus far for the North Valley Community Foundation, thanks to Aaron Rodgers’ guest hosting stint. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category American Literature):
One edition of this 1930s novella shows a farm within the silhouette of a rabbit
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Dennis Chase, a biotech project manager originally from Hyannis, Massachusetts![]() |
Jennifer Leong Evans, a stay-at-home mom from Camas, Washington![]() |
Pasquale Palumbo, a financial services professional from Hawthorne, New York (1-day total: $6,799)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Pasquale took down a 3-day champion in Brandon yesterday; if Jennifer or Dennis were paying attention, they’d have noticed that Pasquale didn’t bet to cover second place in Final Jeopardy yesterday. That might make for a more interesting Final Jeopardy! today.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to abide by physical distancing guidelines and when you are not able to do so, properly wear a mask. Ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Rabbits feature prominently in John Steinbeck’s famed Of Mice and Men; Lennie, one of the main characters, has a dream of being able to tend rabbits on his farm. The novella in general is told from the perspective of Lennie and George, two displaced migrant ranch hands going from farm to farm in search of work in Great Depression California.

Of Mice and Men was a book that I read back in High school and still this FJ brought back some great memories for me. Congrats to Dennis on his win today, and I hope he makes it to three or four games.
Ok, I’m a bit confused. You said, “if Jennifer or Dennis were paying attention, they’d have noticed that Pasquale didn’t bet to cover second place in Final Jeopardy yesterday.”
I thought that players waiting on deck, don’t get to watch the group one day ahead of them?
Contestants get to be the audience now, since there’s no studio audience due to COVID-19.
Good question. If the Friday players are allowed to watch Thursday’s game, then they have already seen the returning champion in action prior to their game. If not, then where do they hide while Thursday’s game is being taped?
They made a mistake in “Flag-pouri” for $400. They showed a red rectangular flag with a white cross, and the clue indicated that they wanted “…the flag of this nation…”. The response given, ruled correct, was “What is Switzerland?”. But that wasn’t the flag of Switzerland. The official Swiss national flag is square, not rectangular. The rectangular flag they showed is the Swiss merchant flag.
