Happy Wednesday, the day of the GEICO Hump Day commercial, and a very nice Hump Day it is! It’s also Day 8 of Mayim Bialik’s hosting stint. Through 7 days, $136,652 has been donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 1960s Singers) for Wednesday, June 9, 2021 (Season 37, Game 183):
In 2002 Macon, Ga., where he grew up, unveiled a statue of this man who sits overlooking the water, a nod to his posthumous No. 1 hit
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Mara Davis, a conference events manager from Chicago, Illinois![]() |
Shannon Debus-Horn, an attorney originally from Port Charlotte, Florida![]() |
Tim Lopez, a storytelling coach originally from Los Angeles, California (1-day total: $14,400)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Tim picked up a win yesterday in spite of missing Final Jeopardy. If he can have similar stats to yesterday (36% in first on buzzer, 21 correct, etc., aggressive on the Daily Doubles), he has a good chance of picking up Win #2.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: Who is Otis Redding?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Otis Redding died in a December 1967 plane crash, along with four members of his backing band, the Bar-Kays, when the plane that he was on crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin in poor weather. Redding and his band was travelling between Cleveland and Madison. Released in January 1968, “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” was the first posthumous song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The statue can be found overlooking the Ocmulgee River in Macon’s Charles H. Jones Gateway Park.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Thus far, $167,252 has been donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness through 8 games. $1,667,377 has been donated from all guest hosts.
- Shannon was in a very difficult spot in that final Daily Double; I think that a bet between $1,601 and $2,399 would have been better than the $1,000 that she bet, though.

Was just reading about Janis Joplin the other day, and the article mentioned how she had the first posthumous number 1 since Otis Redding.
Very impressed with Mayim Bialik. I think I would be comfortable watching her everyday should she be chosen as permanent host. Don’t think this will happen however. I think they’ll pick someone like Aaron Rodgers, who would expand the viewership. $$$.
I like Mayim. She’s very personable and certainly knowledgeable and intelligent; in my assessment her personality seems most like Alex.
Has Little Richard had any No. 1 hits since he died last year ? And I believe Hendrix was from Seattle. (A bad guess is better than no guess.)
Hendrix was well respected as a guitairist but his sales success was in albums and he never had a number 1 hit single.
That makes sense … thanks !
One of the contestants incorrectly guessed “Little Richard” which, of course, isn’t the correct question. But…
Little Richard was, in fact, born in Macon whereas Redding was born in Dawson GA (two hour drive from Macon). So…
That wasn’t as bad a response as I thought it was while I was laughing at the “ridiculous” guess.
These kids don’t know Rock & Roll died when Lennon was shot. Everything they know is wrong.
I loved seeing Mara’s reaction when she realized she had won. It’s been a great week for such reactions.
How was Mara’s incorrect guess in Round 1 not caught by the judges? The correct answer was Wallendas. That is certainly not what she said.
I’m sorry to tell you this, but “Wallendas” is exactly what she said.
I just watched my DVR of today’s show. Mara definitely said “Wallendas.”
