Happy Friday! Today is Day 5 of Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s hosting stint. Through 4 days, $84,058 has been donated to Odyssey Atlanta. Regardless of today’s outcome, after today’s game the show will surpass $2 million in total donations to charity on behalf of the show’s guest hosts. Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Hit Songs) for Friday, July 2, 2021 (Season 37, Game 200):
Written in 1930, this song was a No. 1 hit in 1960 & was covered by The Band to support a 1976 Presidential candidate
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
McKenzie Miller, a clinical trial researcher from Cincinnati, Ohio
Nanci Skinner, a grocery clerk from Warren, Maine
Courtney Shah, a community college instructor from Portland, Oregon (4-day total: $72,058)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Courtney is the first 4-day champion since February; if she wins today, she becomes the first 5-day champion since January. It’s a very difficult task to sweep a taping day, though, as fatigue definitely becomes a consideration. If she can, though, she’ll become the first player since MacKenzie Jones in February 2020 to sweep a taping day.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is “Georgia on My Mind”?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
“Georgia on My Mind” was originally recorded in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael; Ray Charles took the song to No. 1 in 1960. The song was also part of the general repertoire of The Band dating back to their days in Canada as Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks; when the musicians left Hawkins and formed The Band, The Band kept playing the song, and recorded a version for Jimmy Carter’s campaign in 1976. An instrumental version was used in the late 1980s and early 1990s for the Atlanta-set TV series Designing Women.
This is also a clue which will play easier for someone either hearing it—as “The Band” can be emphasized differently from the generic “the band”—or reading it in mixed case as opposed to all caps.

Andy’s Thoughts:
- This week, $94,258 has been donated to Odyssey Atlanta. $2,007,219 has been donated to all charities.
- The CANADIANA $800 clue in today’s game is believed to be the first reference to the City of Guelph (and the University of Guelph) in a Jeopardy! clue; previous references to Guelph have always been the Guelphs (as in the opposition faction to the Ghibellines from Middle Age Italy).
