Today’s Final Jeopardy – Thursday, September 30, 2021

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Children’s Literature) for Thursday, September 30, 2021 (Season 38, Game 14):

A 2000 Library of Congress exhibit called this 1900 work “America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairy tale”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Andrew Fox, a museum web & interactive developer from Novato, California
Andrew Fox on Jeopardy!
Abigail Noy, a screen printer from New York, New York
Abigail Noy on Jeopardy!
Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, Connecticut (31-day total: $1,158,001)
Matt Amodio on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Matt has matched the Baskin-Robbins total of 31 wins and is now 1 win away from tying James Holzhauer for #2 on the all-time wins list.

One thing that I’ve found to be very disturbing recently: the number of people who believe that Matt’s opponents are subpar. This could not be further from the truth. (In fact, Daniel yesterday had stats equal to that of an average champion on the show). Matt, last night, on Twitter, said: “All of my competitors are extremely smart people, and those people saying otherwise are probably the only things that actually bother me on here. Insult me, hate me, I don’t care. But uninformed trolls insulting the other contestants is just the lowest of the low”. It’s great to see Matt stand up for his fellow players like this.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to. When wearing a mask, ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? (also reprinted as The Wizard of Oz)

Did you know that you can now find game-by-game stats of everyone, now including Jason Zuffranieri and James Holzhauer, who has won 10 or more games on Jeopardy!, here on the site?

More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is L. Frank Baum’s famous 1900 work of literature, the basis of the very famous 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz. An important note here is that this work has been reprinted using the shortened The Wizard of Oz title (and even the Library of Congress, in the title of its centenary exhibit in 2000, used the abbreviated title). If you’re going to comment on this aspect of today’s Final Jeopardy! without having read this section today, know that my patience for your arguments will very likely be very thin.

In my book, Jeopardy clearly has a “big 4” and Matt has moved up to #3.

    1) Ken
    2) James
    3) Matt
    4) Brad

  2. Matt is the best! Not only is he an excellent player, but he is also an excellent person. I look forward to his winning tomorrow and beating James’s record of consecutive wins. I never thought I’d ever see anyone beat Ken’s record, but it would not surprise me in the least if Matt did it.

We love Matt. He is brillant. I know Alex looking down from Heaven is smiling.

  4. I hope Matt is aware that the overwhelming majority of true Jeopardy! Fans support, enjoy and root for him. This site is so positive its hard to believe there is such negativity toward him on other venues.

  5. Not sure if anyone else noticed it but Matt’s answer to FJ was revealed on his podium before Mayim cut to him.

  6. Matt’s certainly the best post-Alex contestant so far. Only wish Alex were here to see him; he would be proud.

  7. People don’t get on Jeopardy by being “subpar.” There have been several that would have won on a “normal” show and a few times it wasn’t a runaway.

Some people are miserable individuals who can’t find joy in anything so they have to complain about Matt or other contestants. I hope he continues to win.

Alex would have been so proud of him.
