Correct response: What is Ottawa?

Ottawa is probably my 2nd-favorite city in Canada to visit (after St. John’s, Newfoundland.) I’ve been to Ottawa during Winterlude. It’s very beautiful, and the ice sculptures in Confederation Park (just southeast of Parliament Hill) are absolutely stunning. I’ve never skated on the Rideau Canal, though. (That being said, that is more because of my inability to ice skate with any semblance of skill.)
The show will probably come under fire for what viewers perceive to be an easier Final clue. However, I have no issue with either this or other easier Final Jeopardy! clues. As I have said multiple times in the past, easier Final Jeopardy! clues keep the wagering “honest” and it keeps leaders betting for victory. If easy Final Jeopardy! clues did not exist, then leaders would have an incentive to play the round more conservatively, and that makes for a worse game overall. Moreover, a contestant might see World Capitals as a category and completely overlook Canada—I would venture that any contestant mistakes would come from this reason right here. I’m hoping that today goes 3-for-3 in Final. Considering Amy’s betting tendencies in Final, I’m also hoping that we get to see another big payday out of her, maybe even one that brings her over the $200,000 mark.

I’m kind of stunned that no one got this. English name for the event + French name for the canal kind of screams Canada. Maybe it just seemed too obvious? Anyway, nice to see Amy seal the TOC. Promises to be an exciting one. Alex would have loved it.
Jackie, your comment about Alex is exactly what I was thinking, though I was also thinking that his being Canadian (and graduating from the University of Ottawa) could have prevented the players from ignoring Ottawa had he been the host. On the other hand, I’m wondering if a Jeopardy! showrunner would have ruled that out as a FJ! caliber question had Alex been the host.
I may have fallen into Andy’s assumption about some not even thinking about Canada, but I had just zoned in on Europe because of the “World Heritage Site” — I tend to think of those as being way over 200 years old! I guessed Copenhagen since it is further north than Amsterdam (knowing there was interaction between the Vikings and the French, so a Scandinavian place could possibly have a French name and The Netherlands is not Scandinavian).
I only knew this one because I’ve been to Epcot and watched the O Canada show many times.
