Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Capitals) for Tuesday, November 23, 2021 (Season 38, Game 52):
An annual event called Winterlude includes skating on the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in this city
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Matt King, an attorney from Lewisville, Texas![]() |
Genesis Whitlock, a diversity & inclusion professional from Brooklyn, New York![]() |
Amy Schneider, an engineering manager from Oakland, California (4-day total: $155,600)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Amy Schneider has won over $150,000 in her first four games. In the last 20 years, only James Holzhauer and Roger Craig have won more money through four games. This upcoming Tournament of Champions field is very likely going to be one of the strongest ever, and I can not wait to see how that plays out going forward.
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Correct response: What is Ottawa?
More information about Final Jeopardy: (The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2021 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Ottawa is probably my 2nd-favorite city in Canada to visit (after St. John’s, Newfoundland.) I’ve been to Ottawa during Winterlude. It’s very beautiful, and the ice sculptures in Confederation Park (just southeast of Parliament Hill) are absolutely stunning. I’ve never skated on the Rideau Canal, though. (That being said, that is more because of my inability to ice skate with any semblance of skill.)
The show will probably come under fire for what viewers perceive to be an easier Final clue. However, I have no issue with either this or other easier Final Jeopardy! clues. As I have said multiple times in the past, easier Final Jeopardy! clues keep the wagering “honest” and it keeps leaders betting for victory. If easy Final Jeopardy! clues did not exist, then leaders would have an incentive to play the round more conservatively, and that makes for a worse game overall. Moreover, a contestant might see World Capitals as a category and completely overlook Canada—I would venture that any contestant mistakes would come from this reason right here. I’m hoping that today goes 3-for-3 in Final. Considering Amy’s betting tendencies in Final, I’m also hoping that we get to see another big payday out of her, maybe even one that brings her over the $200,000 mark.

Today’s interviews:
Matt is a 3rd-generation Notre Dame alumnus.
Genesis had an unusual job interview where the interviewer had the wrong resume.
Amy finds team managing better than writing code.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Amy is the 25th player to win at least $150,000 (or $75,000 before the dollar values were doubled)
within their first 5 games, and only 8 players have won more than Amy has: James Holzhauer ($298,687), Frank Spangenberg (adjusted to $205,194), Roger Craig ($195,801), Jerome Vered (adjusted to $193,602), Austin Rogers ($188,700), Larissa Kelly ($179,797), David Siegel (adjusted to $172,400), and Doug Lach (adjusted to $170,800). - I would say the four unplayed clues today is due to the 10 combined incorrect responses in Double Jeopardy; it does take time to have all of the rebounds.
- The last time we had 3 consecutive games with only 2 players in Final Jeopardy: Feb. 28–March 2, 2017.
- Canadian media will not be particularly thrilled that this clue saw 0 correct responses.

I’m kind of stunned that no one got this. English name for the event + French name for the canal kind of screams Canada. Maybe it just seemed too obvious? Anyway, nice to see Amy seal the TOC. Promises to be an exciting one. Alex would have loved it.
Jackie, your comment about Alex is exactly what I was thinking, though I was also thinking that his being Canadian (and graduating from the University of Ottawa) could have prevented the players from ignoring Ottawa had he been the host. On the other hand, I’m wondering if a Jeopardy! showrunner would have ruled that out as a FJ! caliber question had Alex been the host.
I may have fallen into Andy’s assumption about some not even thinking about Canada, but I had just zoned in on Europe because of the “World Heritage Site” — I tend to think of those as being way over 200 years old! I guessed Copenhagen since it is further north than Amsterdam (knowing there was interaction between the Vikings and the French, so a Scandinavian place could possibly have a French name and The Netherlands is not Scandinavian).
I only knew this one because I’ve been to Epcot and watched the O Canada show many times.
