Today’s Final Jeopardy – Thursday, June 9, 2022

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Children’s Literature) for Thursday, June 9, 2022 (Season 38, Game 194):

First published in French in 1943, this book has been called the most translated non-religious work, rendered into more than 300 languages

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Sean McGrath, a middle school teacher from Washington, D.C.
Sean McGrath on Jeopardy!
Allison MacDonald, a lawyer from Randolph, New Jersey
Allison MacDonald on Jeopardy!
Eric Ahasic, a meteorologist from Minneapolis, Minnesota (3-day total: $75,601)
Eric Ahasic on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Eric Ahasic, after defeating 16-day champion Ryan Long, has picked up two very dominant victories. Will he be able to keep his run going and pick up victory number four today? A win today would be very helpful for any Tournament of Champions aspirations!

Today’s game, if the J!6 categories are to be believed, has a category titled “Presenting Jeopcoin!” in Double Jeopardy. The J!6 clue looked like it is just a fancy way of having a category about cryptocurrency. I’m really hoping that Jeopardy! hasn’t entered into the world of meme cryptocurrencies and/or NFTs.

My Pregame Thoughts don’t normally enter a third paragraph, but I apparently have a lot to say this morning! Today’s recap thoughts will be coming in a little bit later than usual, as I am moving today to Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador! It’s a move that’s been a long time coming, and there should be no difference in my coverage! (Other than the fact that this afternoon’s information will be slightly late.)

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

In 1943, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry first published his famed novella, about the adventures of a pilot who has crashed in the Sahara Desert, and the unexpected meeting of a young boy, known as “the little prince”. It is one of the most famous literary works of the 20th century and has sold over 140 million copies worldwide. Sadly, it was not able to be published in France during Saint-Exupéry’s life, as the Vichy regime (the Nazi puppet government in France during World War II) had banned Saint-Exupéry’s works. He died in 1944 when his plane crashed while on a reconnaissance mission over the Mediterranean; he became a French national hero following the war.

Game Recap:

Jeopardy! Round categories: Ancient History; Abbreviated TV; One-Letter First Name Change; Book It!; Pump-Pourri; Silent W Words

Eric went $600-$800-True Daily Double in ANCIENT HISTORY to open and then picked up four more correct responses before the first commercial break. After the break was more Eric, with our defending champion picking up 13 correct responses over the entire round (though Allison and Sean were playing well, they were both well behind after 30 clues.)

Double Jeopardy! Round categories: Presenting Jeopcoin!; Classical Music; Country of the Waterfall; That’s Not a President; Drink Up Pop Culture; Words of Comfort

The game was pretty much decided on Clue #2 of Double Jeopardy; Eric went for an $8,800 True Daily Double and hit it to take a very commanding lead. Again, while Allison and Sean played well, their respective performances were no match for Eric today, and the game was pretty much over on Clue 13 after Eric picked up another $5,000 on the game’s final Daily Double. The scores going into Final saw Eric at $32,600, Allison at $10,400, and Sean at $5,800.

Allison and Sean got Final, while Eric did not; Eric didn’t lose that much, though, and found his 4-day total over $100,000! He’ll go for the all-important win #5 tomorrow!
