Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

Today on ITV at 5:45 PM GMT features the first episode in a 20-episode series of Jeopardy games on ITV, hosted by Stephen Fry.

For those who are already familiar with the American version, the main premise of the game hasn’t changed: contestants are given clues (answers) and need to respond in the form of a question. (What is/Who is/etc.) There are going to be some minor format changes, though. These games will be an hour in length (including commercials) and will consist of 3 boards (90 clues) before Final Jeopardy. The first two rounds will have clue values of £25, £50, £75, £100, and £150, with one Daily Double, while the third round will have clue values of £50, £100, £150, £200, and £300, with two Daily Doubles. Following those three rounds, we’ll see Final Jeopardy, with the winner after Final Jeopardy receiving their winnings in cash and returning on the next programme. With the clue values where they are, I expect the winner to make somewhere in the neighbourhood of about £3,000 an episode (maybe £4,000 if the betting leans toward the more aggressive side).

I expect my coverage to be similar to that to what you see of a primetime American version of the show; I’ll update this page at each commercial break with whatever statistics I have at each break.

For those who are new to the website, here’s a reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • If you were hoping for this to be identical to the American version, you’ll be disappointed. However, this show was not intended to be the American version, and I think it does very well for what it is. The clues are very well-written, amusing, and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves! I’m really liking this.

Mayank: Standard cover bet over Ralph is £2,326. (Actual bet: £2,326)

Natasha: Play for the Triple Stumper here and limit your bet to £225 or less. (Actual bet: £1,675)

Ralph: Standard cover bet over Natasha is £951. (Actual bet: £1,000)

6 Comments on "Jeopardy! UK Game Recap – Monday, January 1, 2024"

  1. I wish I could watch this. 🙁

  2. Bill Vollmer | January 1, 2024 at 5:23 pm |

I once saw an espisode of the last UK version. From Andy’s notes, this would appear to be a faster paced ganme than that version, closer to the pace of the US version. But if I were to find this, I know enough about the British style of game shows, NOT to expect an exact reproduction of the US version

  3. Well, you were pretty close all round with your forecast for winning amount. The actual winner did get £4,801 but had he been incorrect, if either of the other two had been correct that person would have gotten a little over £3,000 as the winnings.

  4. Something for you to maybe think about…I don’t think I am going to like having the UK version chained directly into the American versions via the “Prev” and “Next” links, thus requiring two hops to go day-to-day to just see our preferred version. I see you do have a [Jeopardy! UK] link at/near the top of this page (though the same location on the page says [Season 40] on the US game pages). After a few more UK episodes have aired, do you possibly plan to only link via “prev/next” UK to UK and US to US? (The [RECAPS] drop-down at the very top would continue to provide links to easily jump from one to the other.)

  5. How does someone win the money (future episode spoilers redacted by Admin) so do they have to loose to get what they had won previous ?
