As an American I made a wild guess of 1952 (guessing maybe the first coin with Elizabeth II on it). Upon finding out the correct information I realized that it would have marked the return to pounds from Euros after the Brexit vote of 2016. With 2017 being less than 7 years ago, I was surprised that not one of these Brits got it right. I suppose by 2017 most people there were also mostly using credit cards and not using coins much.
The UK had never changed to/used the Euro.
