Andy’s Weekly Thoughts (5/4): Rhythm Games!

Welcome to another week of editorial thoughts! It’s shorter this week, but still important!

I’m Going To Say It Again: Play More Rhythm Games.

In past editorials, I have spoken glowingly about the “rhythm game” genre of video games and how they can help prepare prospective contestants to get the buzzer timing down. Certainly, Victoria Groce—who came to her conclusions independently of myself—credits her time using the mobile rhythm game Cytus II (among many others in the genre) for her impeccable buzzer timing. (And, it’s hard to argue with her results—she was successful on 73% of her buzzes on Wednesday against Matt and Mattea.) It’s clear—at least to me—that rhythm games should be a part of the preparation meta for top contestants going forward.

My friends over at Geeks Who Drink have introduced a daily trivia game—Thrice! Did You Notice A Glow Up? The Six Masters Get A Wardrobe Stipend.

If you noticed a bit of a glow up among the six Jeopardy! Masters players this week, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. It was confirmed to me that the six players taking part in Masters receive a $3,000 wardrobe stipend.

So, that would certainly explain why our six players are all a step up in their presentation during this tournament.

Wardrobe stipend. Instead of clothing them from the Sony costuming department (which it seems clothes Vanna White, Victoria Groce while on the Chase, and, the various hosts on Sony produced games,) or, getting outfits from designers (stores) in return for promotional credit, Sony is giving the six Masters uncredited winnings to get a new wardrobe for the Masters? Seems like a logical way to have these featured players decked out in finery of their own choosing. I’m sure that James Holzhauer found someplace is Las Vegas that helps the performers in the casino main stages. Matea in Toronto, Amy in the SF Bay Area, and, etc. designers/stores that fit their indivual styles.

    • Right, I would rather see them in what they have chosen for themselves, but besides reflecting their individuality, whatever they had been dressed in (if done by “wardrobe”) might have made them uncomfortable — mentally or physically.

lisa; do you remember who supplied Alex Trebec’s suits, while giving designers promotional credit in return for supplying clothes to TV personalities was common. Alex, had one suit supplier as I recal, Pat Sajac another. And, of course Vanna had many designers.

  2. Rhythm Heaven fever on the Wii is 100% the best game you could play to train for jeopardy. Heck the Wii remote is even the right size to compare to the jeopardy buzzer and the game only requires one button press
