Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Borders) for Wednesday, September 11, 2024 (Season 41, Game 3):
After Canada & the U.S., these 2 countries share the longest land border at more than 4,700 miles
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Kristen Robinson, a history instructor from St. Joseph, Michigan![]() |
Ben Gagne-Maynard, an education consultant from Madison, Wisconsin![]() |
Will Weiss, a technical program manager from Islip, New York (1-day total: $14,000)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Day #3 of Season 41 features our third different player occupying the returning champion’s space in Will Weiss. While he won just $14,000 yesterday, he did pick up a $17,000 Coryat score in yesterday’s game, picking up 20 correct responses. I do think that challengers Ben Gagne-Maynard and Kristen Robinson will have their respective work cut out for them today if they want to become the champion at the end of today’s half-hour of gameplay.

Though there are differing lengths cited for the Russia-Kazakhstan border due to differing measurement methodologies, the land border between these two Asian countries is the second-longest in the world right now.
Other potential wrong answers that I might see today could be China-Mongolia, China-Russia, and potentially even Argentina-Chile.

I guessed China-Russia
I think Russia and … will be a common response. I also went with China. Seems trivia questions with answers of Kazakhstan usually involve the first Sputnik launch.
I was torn between China/Russia (much shorter than I was thinking, when factoring in Kazakhstan and Mongolia) and Chile/Argentina. In the end, I went with Chile/Argentina, which is nearly 1,500 miles shorter than Russia/Kazakhstan.
Correction, about 600 miles shorter (about 950 kilometers)
I went with Chile/Argentina as well.
Another Final Jeopardy that I missed beccause I didn’t know an important fact. The fact I didn’t know was how big Kazakhstan was. My wrongfull impression was that Kazakhstan was relatively small.
My response, made with all confidence was “What is China, and, Russia?” If Ken’s thinking was right, the border between China and Russia can’t rank higher than fourth! Argentina and Chile ranking third? Even seeing the map, it’s not something I, at least would imagine.
Once again there’s always tomorrow.
First get of the season for me! I figured it had to be Russia, and I got to Kazakhstan (as opposed to China) with enough time to write it. All that time on Sporcle really pays off sometimes.
Bill, I think you’re confusing Kazakhstan (by far the largest former SSR – and by “former” I mean excluding Russia) with Kyrgyzstan.
Maybe, about a Kyrgyzstan mix-up, but I myself did not realize that any of the “stans” were particularly big. 😬
Thanks to having a student from Kazakhstan when I was teaching English as a second language, I was able to get this easily. Having a student from Kazakhstan made me interested in learning more about Kazakhstan. One of the things I learned was just how big that country is and it’s long border with Russia. It all added up to a correct response today but would not have been the Final if I had been on the show.
Andy’s guessed responses hit the nail on the head for me. Those are precisely the ones that came to me. I picked Argentina and Chile partly because I thought perhaps the whole of South America might be bigger than I had ever realized it is (like in relation to China or Russia), but mostly because I knew I did not know all the countries surrounding China, so thought there might be more if them than I realized.
I, like many, went with Russia/China. The thing that had me scared was the Mongolia problem. I couldn’t think of anything else, so that stayed my answer. Now 1 for 3 to start Season 41.
On to tomorrow! Will…..Will get to 3 wins? I am willing to say yes! All puns intended! 🙂
Hello! What was the question about Llandaff and Cardiff, Wales? Thank you! I know the answer was Cardiff.
In 1922 the area of this Welsh capital was expanded to include that of Llandaff
