Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Sports & The City) for Tuesday, November 19, 2024 (Season 41, Game 52):
At 800 West Main & 700 Central in this city are a company & a venue both involved in Triple Crowns
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Chris Burge, a high school teacher from Farmers Branch, Texas![]() |
Mikey McCullough, a librarian from Baltimore, Maryland![]() |
Paul Clauson, a tax analyst from Madison Heights, Michigan (2-day total: $36,300)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Paul Clauson’s unpaid leave from his job has paid off on Jeopardy to the tune of two victories, $36,300, and at least a spot in Champions Wildcard. A win today, as per the overnight announcement on Inside Jeopardy, would put him in the Tournament of Champions at this point. However, Baltimore’s Mikey McCullough and Texas’s Chris Burge will want to stop him and get their own run of victories going.

The two separate venues associating Louisville, Kentucky with Triple Crowns are, firstly, at 800 West Main, the headquarters of the Hillerich & Bradsby Co. the manufacturers of the famed Louisville Slugger baseball bat—associated with baseball’s “Triple Crown”.
The famous Louisville venue, located at 700 Central, is Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg in American horse racing’s Triple Crown.
Assuming the contestants can realize that this clue refers to both baseball and horse racing and don’t get sidetracked by Baltimore (home of both MLB’s Orioles and Pimlico Race Course, venue for the Preakness), this should be a relatively straightforward clue. One that I actually enjoy as a sports clue, to be honest.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Mikey $20,200 Paul $11,000 Chris $1,600)
Paul: The only way you can win is if you bet at least $7,400. If you limit your bet to $7,799, you can guarantee second place as well. (Actual bet: $11,000)
Mikey: Standard cover bet over Paul is $1,801. (Actual bet: $2,000)
Chris: (Actual bet: $0)

Figured it had to be Louisville, Baltimore, or Elmont. I correctly went with Louisville. Oddly, this year the Belmont Stakes will not be held in Elmont as they are doing work on the race track there – it will be held in Saratoga Springs.
Yeah MarkO, I believe 2024 and 2025’s Belmont are both at Saratoga.
I got this one. Was recently in Louisville, Kentucky to attend the “Louder Than Life” music concert. Visited the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory
And here I thought I was being so smart, thinking Baltimore because of Pimlico and Frank Robinson’s Triple Crown as an Oriole. Too bad I didn’t know the address part of the clue.
appreciate your out of the box thinking re Frank Robinson triple crown.
Wondering if Paul was thinking of Rawlings being based in St Louis given his final jeopardy answer. And Andy, as for your betting suggestion for Paul, I’d have to disagree. Don’t play for second – his wager should be at least 9,201 just in case Mikey doesn’t wager to cover.
If you don’t think Mikey is betting to cover, then your best bet is all in, as only that covers all of Mikey’s non-covers.
Additionally, when you can both guarantee second place as well as give yourself a nearly equal chance of victory—it is generally in your best monetary interests to do so.
On the other hand, by betting it all when you must be correct to win you give yourself a bigger payday if you do win.
Despie the wording of today’s Final Jeopardy clue answer seeming awkward TI ME, there was enough for me to suspect that the correct response would be “What is Louisville, KY?” As I was Googling one of the addresses to see if I was right, Ken confirmed I was right, with Chris’s response. Now 1-1 for the week.
I got FJ correct using vague knowledge and lack of knowledge. I.E., I was aware of the Louisville Slugger factory but did not know anything about a baseball Triple Crown. I did not know the address of Churchill Downs, but had been there and knew that it is practically “downtown” which either West Main or 700 Central addresses sound like. Obviously one Triple Crown connection was the Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs, but I just assumed the other one was some company in Louisville otherwise involved in the same Triple Crown, perhaps a governing organization or a marketing firm or even a betting company. Of course that theory doesn’t exactly match plural [kinds of] Triple Crowns, but a FJ clue wording that you can split hairs about is not rare.
Having grown up in Baltimore and not far from Pimlico, I knew the address wasn’t right for Pimlico Race Course. That left either the home of the Kentucky Derby or the Belmont Stakes. Since I wasn’t sure of the city where the Belmont is run, I went with Louisville, Kentucky, as the only other option. It was mostly a matter of ruling out the other two and, then, confirming with the home of the Louisville Slugger which I used in my days as a catcher in the Forest Park Little League.
Hi Robert! The city that the Belmont Stakes is held in is actually Elmont, NY. Thought that you might like that little bit of trivia. 🙂
I’ll “B”
🙂 a”b”solutely mike!
Well well, a sports FJ that I didn’t screw up, like last week’s New Orleans Saints. I immediately threw out Louisville. I threw it out so fast that I was nearly questioning myself as “Think” continued playing. LOL
1 for 2 for the week and 7 for 52 for the season. .135 batting average!
Retro congrats to Mikey on a very big win! Will she get #2 tomorrow?
