Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, December 6, 2024

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the December 6, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category TV Characters) for Friday, December 6, 2024 (Season 41, Game 65):

On TV in the 1960s & the 2020s, this character has a first name that’s partly from Latin for “death”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Erin Adams, a historian & educator from Springfield, Tennessee
Erin Adams on Jeopardy!
Zach DeBoer, a graduate student from Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Zach DeBoer on Jeopardy!
Dave Bond, a retired grant manager from West Henrietta, New York (1-day total: $25,000)
Dave Bond on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

After a plausible theory has surfaced, courtesy Matt Carberry, regarding the timing of Lisa Ann Walter’s late cancellation from competing in the Tournament of Champions and how it came after the Tournament of Champions taped (See, Darian, how easy it is to actually credit someone instead of referring to unnamed Redditors?), it appears as though we can close the book on the 32nd Tournament of Champions. Whoever wins today will be held over until the postseason cycle leading up to the 33rd ToC in 2026. The prediction model here at The Jeopardy! Fan thinks there’s about a 60% chance of that winner today being defending champion Dave Bond, who won $25,000 after a runaway performance yesterday. Of course, there are two challengers in Zach DeBoer and Erin Adams who’ll want to take victory themselves!

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Morticia Addams, the matriarch of the Addams clan in The Addams Family, was portrayed by Carolyn Jones in the 1960s (The Addams Family) and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the 2020s (Wednesday). She’s also been portrayed on film by Anjelica Huston in the 1990s (The Addams Family and Addams Family Values).

Compared to some of the other more difficult Finals this week, I expect that today’s will end up being more straightforward. We shall see, though!

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I feel like Zach’s Second Chance chances would have been significantly higher had he gone for a True Daily Double on DD3.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Dave $16,400 Erin $13,000 Zach $12,000)

Dave: Standard cover bet over Erin is $9,601. (Actual bet: $10,000)

Zach: I’d bet between $2,000 and $5,199 here—or, all-in is an option as well if you think Erin won’t cover. (Actual bet: $2,000)

Erin: You’re in Stratton’s Dilemma; you can’t both cover Zach and win on a Triple Stumper. If covering Zach, bet at least $11,001. If playing for a Triple Stumper, I would limit my bet here to $999, but anything up to $6,199 is probably OK. (Actual bet: $7,000)

  1. Sad to say I didn’t figure this one out on time, not only being a fan of the original show and having Streamed “Wednesday”, but also having a huge collection of Charles Addams cartoons from the New Yorker – though the characters had no names in the cartoons.

  2. Perhaps it is just me, but I just now noticed that, of course the character of Morticia in the 1960’s on TV was played by Carolyn JONES…and in the 2020’s by Catherine Zeta-JONES!!! I’m sure, most unrelated!!!

    • And the two best known Superman actors were George Reeves and Christopher Reeve.

    • Unlikely, but you never know. Jones is a common name of Welsh and English extraction and means “Johnson.” As to George Reeves, he was born George Brewer and became George Bessolo after being adopted by his stepfather. WB gave him the “Reeves” stage name. Chris Reeve actually was a Reeve.

Who do you think will replace Lisa Ann Walter in the upcoming TOC to fill up the whole 21 roster. I know we have the winner of the upcoming Champion’s Wildcard participating, but I’m curious who.

    • Whoever was originally supposed to be the alternate. (Likely second place in CWC.)

      • Jonathan Farley | December 6, 2024 at 4:42 pm |

I believe so too, just like how Andy Tirell was an alternate for the last Tournament of Champions, and finished in second place in the first round of the 2024 Champions Wildcard.

  4. What a fun get to end the week!

  5. This Final Jeopardy would’ve been straight forward for me, if I could’ve only come up with “Mort” as being a name “partially from Latin, meaning death.” My mind just couldn’t come up with “Mort.” Bad week for Final Jeopardys for me. Between “regular” Jeopardy and Pop Culture Jeopardy, 1 for 8. To be easier on myself, the one I did it, the Final Jeopardy on Poland wasn’t the easiest of the week. (But it wasn’t the hardest one either.)

    • I,too, was trying to make something from “mort” but couldn’t come up with anything.

    • I didn’t specifically know the word was ‘mort’ but seeing as how so many words pertaining to death have that in them, I just depended on the given years to quickly come up with Morticia Addams. I had wondered whether “is streaming considered ‘TV’?” [it is] might throw anyone off.

  6. Robert J. Fawkes | December 6, 2024 at 7:28 pm |

Starting with mort, morte, mortem, it was easy to turn to Morticia, especially since Burger King recently did an “Addams Family” promotion right around Halloween. Being the promotion was less than two months ago, it was easy to remember. Also, I was around for the original in the 1960’s.

  7. It is no surprise that Erin got it right considering she is also an Adams. But besides that, she is from Adams, TN which is infamously the home of ‘The Bell Witch’ [which a search will easily turn up a lot of information about]. Having someone witch-y named Addams turn up as the FJ would have been particularly interesting had Erin’s interview been related to the Bell Witch of Addams, TN. I had a dorm-mate who was a descendant of that Bell family. Her last name was Bell, but each generation can have name changes following marriages.

    • Sorry, I got ahead of myself typing and put that Erin was from Adams, TN. What I meant to type was that she is from Springfield which is only about 12 miles from Adams.
