Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Art & Artists) for Thursday, February 27, 2025 (Season 41, Game 124):
Born in Amersfoort in 1872, he helped found an art movement characterized by the use of straight lines & primary colors

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Juveria Zaheer, a psychiatrist from Whitby, Ontario, Canada![]() |
Jackson Jones, a conflicts analyst assistant from Louisville, Kentucky![]() |
Seth Wilson, an editor & adjunct professor from Oak Park, Illinois![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
The last of the nine quarterfinals in the 2025 JIT is being contested between Seth Wilson, Jackson Jones, and Juveria Zaheer. Seth won a dozen games back in 2016 before being invited back for the Tournament of Champions and the 2019 All-Star Games, while Jackson was very strong in both the 2019 Teen Tournament and 2023 High School Reunion Tournament. Meanwhile, Juveria was the breakout star of Season 40 after winning Second Chance and Champions Wildcard en route to a narrow defeat in the Tournament of Champions to Luigi de Guzman.
One thing that I’ve noticed in reading the words of numerous other contestants over the past year is that Juveria’s words have been incredibly helpful for many former players; I note especially what John Focht said recently about his own recovery from cancer: “Still, in even thinking about it at all, I knew that if I did get called for it again, cancer was either going to have to be part of my story or it was going to be something I deliberately ignored. Credit here in particular to Juveria Zaheer, who talked with me about these ideas last year and left me feeling more confident in using my own story in the ways that would work best for me. She was a huge help in working through the thought process that resulted in the chemo post last summer, and that work helped again on a morning in December.” Honestly, I believe at this point that Juveria is due some sort of recognition at Jeopardy! Honors for how much she has helped others.

Correct response: Who is Piet Mondrian?

Piet Mondrian was a founder of, oldest member of, and likely the most prominent member of De Stijl, the Dutch art movement founded in the early 20th century. Mondrian’s incredibly distinctive artwork generally features grid-based paintings, with black lines separating rectangles of both white space and bold primary colors.
Personally, I found this to be a very straightforward Final Jeopardy clue—however, Mondrian is also one of my personal favorite artists; I generally find his works to be very aesthetically pleasing.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Juveria $16,000 Jackson $10,800 Seth $6,400)
Seth: You have to be correct to win; while you do have to bet at least $4,000, you might as well go all in to force a cover bet from Jackson. (Actual bet: $6,399)
Jackson: You can’t both cover Seth and win a Triple Stumper if Juveria covers. So, you have a choice: either bet between $0 and $399 and hope for a Triple Stumper, or you might as well go all in to force a cover bet out of Juveria. (Actual bet: $5,201)
Juveria: Jackson might be just inside of two-thirds, but he has to defend against Seth, giving Jackson reason to possibly go all in. Cover bet is $5,601. (Actual bet: $5,601)

Remember in the early late 60s early 70s there was a board game called “Masterpiece” that primarily involved great classic works of Art and their creators. I remembered it when looking up the work of Piet Mondrian. He was there, we had it.
We had that game. What was the most expensive one worth? One million? And there was a ‘fake’ in there also. I would watch my older sisters play – I was playing chutes and ladders at the time.
Got this one pretty quickly. My path to the answer:
Amersfoort = low countries
born in 1872 = majority of their work will be in the early 20th century
straight lines and primary colors = Mondrian
Then it was just a matter of mentally ensuring that “Mondrian” worked with the first two elements, which he did, and so I settled on him as my answer by the time I finished reading the clue.
I kicked myself after scrolling to the correct response, because I was trying to think which 19th-century Dutch painters I might know of.
Thank you for recognizing and calling out what Juveria means to me and to many of us.
🙂 and also thank you for showing the courage you had in revealing your fight John. Stay strong sir!
Read the FJ clue and the Partridge Family school bus immediately came to mind……
Sounds like Juveria is really good at her job. Congratulations to Juveria on a well-deserved win as well as being a great person.
The quarters were full of bangers almost to game. Nine fantastic players are through. Can’t wait to see the semis.
It’s going to be great
Not my category and thus no clue. Threw out a wrong guess. LOL
Retro congrats to Juveria on the win and looking forward to the Semifinals!
Have a great Friday all! 🙂
Matchups for Semifinals per the Jeopardy website:
Tomorrow – Roger Craig v. Jaskaran Singh v. Shane Witlock (I’ll say Roger wins based on what I see him do in his Quarterfinal)
Monday – Matt Amodio v. Luigi de Guzman v. Emily Sands (Great match and I think that Luigi gets it done in a squeaker)
Tuesday – Raymond Goslow v. Juveria Zaheer v. Ray Lalonde (I think Juveria wins, as she seems the most aggressive and that’s pretty well rewarded in these events)
These are going to be 3 great games! Let’s do this!!!
Tomorrow – Roger Craig v. Jaskaran Singh v. Shane Witlock (I’ll say Roger wins based on what I SAW him do in his Quarterfinal)
