Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:
Day 4 of Series 2 of Jeopardy! UK features defending champion Sree Kanthamneni defending his title against Sue Penaluna from Devon and Samir Chadha from West London.
A few viewers have pointed out that Stephen Fry has been offering “previews” of what is to come later in the series—while an American audience would find such a thing horrifying in 2025, I think it’s a good thing for Stephen to do so in promoting this series. Ratings are down, and hearing that such a thing will happen is a good way to get more eyeballs on TV screens in the UK. I should also point out that Merv Griffin himself went on the talk show circuit in the spring of 2004 essentially telling America that the first 48 games Ken Jennings’s run had taped–the fandom at that point spent two months speculating about which of the champions that spring would become the player, given the nickname “Nerdly Factoid” as nobody was willing to publicly divulge his name.

That’s really interesting about “Nerdly Factoid” – I see what you mean, they know what they’re doing! I do hope the series can be a success.
Another successful FJ for me today although it was a guess – mainly thinking in terms of which countries hadn’t boycotted the Olympics. We have legendary rowers Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent to thank for this record as they won Britain’s only gold medal at Atlanta 1996.
I remember you said last year that contestants often underbet in Daily Doubles and overbet in FJ. It feels like Sree did really well today to hold his nerve and keep going for True Daily Doubles even after the first one was unsuccessful. A great win and a great game to watch.
